"Scientific dead end:" The new push to get wind turbine syndrome back on the radar Infrasound as a health issue is popping up again in Facebook groups and in real life talks, as proponents return to old pseudoscientific claims.

So-called grassroots organisation the "World Council for Health", known for spreading COVID19 misinformation, has just jumped into infrasound as well.

Read this 👇 to find out why this conspiracy theory is rising from the dead again, and why it's already been proved - with science - to be bunk. 🧪🔌

Kratom poisonings soar in US as experts blame synthetic versions and caution against bans Experts say natural kratom may offer benefits and blame synthetic derivatives for surge in poisonings noted by CDC

7-OH, a synthetic kratom derivative found only in trace amounts in the natural plant, has led to a rash of poisonings that all get labelled under the umbrella of “kratom.”

But natural kratom is significantly less dangerous, and many swear by it as a safer alternative to opioids.

My latest.

We have the technological means, for sure.

Perhaps less political will than is necessary, but that can change fast, especially given the current situation.

The right combination of shared information among each industry's competitors would provide the needed data to watch supply & demand closely.

More people see (&/or report) when #LLMs spew out meme-like, grammatically correct paragraphs that confuse meaning or miss it entirely now, but it has always been part of society, just a smaller %, and moving slow enough for meaning to stay up to date by previous means.

Using a #dynamic information spectrum, based in part on the medium / context it's in, helps define the varying meanings of Data, Info, Knowledge, Wisdom.

When we generalize *too much* detailed info away, it downgrades to Data for people who aren't familiar w/ higher parts.

The definition of the #Information_Paradigm is that of a complex system: it often resists #reductionism.

But not always.

Complex systems can have many simple parts.

A #relational approach looks at interactions & harmonious ratios. TIP uses varying speeds for each of the DIKW model's parts.

When you don't have that previous xp / knowledge, the meaning cannot be conveyed as usual, like a paragraph of explanation.

So the rate of production of meme abstracts used to be behind the #information velocity, so knowledge also moved @ that speed. Now, memes lead, info follows, knowledge's lost.

Memes are generalizations, abstracting away information in favor of being compact. That info #entropy is lost to the general public, when that context is removed.

*Using* a meme to shorten what *you* know is 1 thing, using it as wisdom for all is another. Like AI, meaning requires pre-experience.

When the new paradigm became that of digital information, the normal ratios finally flipped.

This is like changing from absolute space & time to relativistic, or Galilean to Lorentzian methods for *simply adding velocities.*

Yes, underlying physics is same but some important changes must be added.

Because conspiring to commit insider trading is by definition, planned disinformation campaigns.

Like penny stocks & crypto, small markets are easily manipulated by large investors (whales), & now everyone knows that the 💩ump regime is all about grifting & scams, so they just mirror their actions.

We need orders of magnitude more information inputs at many different (new) points in the system that are either not measured or not available in real-time now.

Imagine how having huge arrays of seismometers were necessary to build early warning systems for earthquakes.

It would be great to see some work done on the mainstream version that it's generally copied from.

Insider information, front running, rug pulls, etc. have been a part of capitalism from the start, but have been hidden behind closed doors rather than the more visible digital commoner's version.

Rethinking space junk in an age of satellite overload For decades, we have been littering space with decommissioned satellites and rocket parts orbiting our planet. Now this space debris poses a growing threat to the satellites and spacecraft we rely on....

Space is filling up fast: around 2,700 dead satellites and 140 million debris fragments.

EU-funded researchers are now exploring how to recycle satellites in space, or beam debris back to Earth before it spirals out of control.

Music of Mesopotamia - Wikipedia

Given that #Babylonians used a base-60 number system, one is forced to wonder how much of this ancient #information was lost to the transition to base-10, where none of this is any longer immediately obvious.

The number 12 is the best/lowest bridge between them.

“The whole exercise felt ridiculous to Ben. He & his father—2 people who had never been to medical school— were now arguing about cancer research. Meanwhile, his father was ignoring the advice of an actual expert.

‘What am I doing?’ he thought. ‘This is why we have doctors, *human* doctors’.”🧪🛟

Using the fundamental #physics phenomenon of #beats, trial & error, and unmatched metallurgy & bell casting skills, the Chinese assembled 12-tone chromatic bronze bell sets like below, 2000-3600 yrs ago.

Essentially 1st uncovering the mass relation to tone as well.

The famous science communicator/historian Pythagoras passed along many great ideas, as we all know. His original cult ideas include beans & irrational numbers being forbidden.

His argument for those simple ratios is nothing more than literal #numerology. He formed his hypothesis to meet his #bias.

It's also cool that the oldest musical instruments date back to this same time.

Having some written records from then would be amazing!

The image displays the Adorant, a prehistoric figurine carved from mammoth ivory. It is a small ivory plaque depicting a human-like figure with arms raised in a pose of adoration or worship. The reverse side features orderly sequences of notches and dots, which researchers suggest may represent an early precursor to written language or a structured communication system.

Earth’s oldest ice and rocks hold a record of its deep past. Our deep past includes the discovery of the earliest symbolic writing, dating to 40,000 years ago. We consider the big picture of deep time when we go "Old School" on this week’s @bipisci.bsky.social. 🧪

I follow fundamental ideas wherever they take me, but do not see computer language framing going down that far.

A log of good stuff, though, w/ some overlaps to other things I follow more closely.

Mostly it's the generalization of the underlying concepts that interest me & take up my time.

Baby’s Cells Can Manipulate Mom’s Body for Decades An evolutionary approach may help scientists understand why mothers become genetic chimeras and how that affects their health

The 1st step in a fractal-like, discrete sequence toward doubling (1 ➡️ 2) is the most dissonant (noise).

A fetus inside its mother is much like a cancer, causing drastic changes beginning immediately. As the baby forms, it becomes more independent over time.

Also, in the dual feedback loops, nothing is wasted or 'bad' per se.

The phrase '1 person's signal is another's noise' holds, and from one category comes the other: a simple transposition changes dissonance back to constructive.

The Subliminal Ad - Truth in Advertising Was that an ad that flashed by?

Let's not forget the history of #manipulation @ the dawn of the digital age, when the FTC & National Association of Broadcasters banned subliminal ads in 1958.

It's coming back now because the status quo #profit-cult economic model has found ways around this.
