Forget the shadow docket. Some issues that come to the Supreme Court are so straightforward that the justices should just be given college exam bluebooks and a one-hour time limit (no peeking!) to each state their opinions. Then let ChatGPT blend all nine together and voila! the Court's decision.

In 2026, Santa Fe officials seemed unconscious of their obligations under the First Amendment. The previous mayor and the police were passive in 2020 when rioters tore down a controversial obelisk. Perhaps they decided afterwards that the default response to march permit requests should be "No."
Hello #SantaFe #NewMexico! 1A Santa Fe, which got the City to close streets to vehicles for the No Kings 3 City March, is now sponsoring a Free Expression and Public Assembly Ordinance. 1asantafe.beehiiv.com/p/a-petition...

More great coverage of Santa Fe's No Kings 3 in the Santa Fe New Mexican. Special shout out for organizing of more than twenty groups for tabling and outreach during the event!

Heinrich's statement makes sense. If Mullin's going to win the vote anyway--that's a key question; I don't know the answer--and you have a respectful relationship with him, why vote NO? Trump can absolutely find someone worse. Now, with Iran, he's getting panicky and brinksmanly about everything.
The Kansas law strikes me as a bill of attainder: Whereas so-and-so is Trans, so-and-so is guilty, loses their driver's license, etc. Lawyers out there, does that make sense?
My brother-in-law was a guide in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, so this is personal. I've phoned my New Mexico senators plus six Republican senators in states with significant public lands. Seems the Senate is misusing the Congressional Review Act and possibly stirring up more trouble with Canada.
On Bluesky, does a subscriber have to be privileged to post anything more than a few lines of text? I wanted to comment on plans to use natural gas to generate electricity for mega data centers in New Mexico, but there's no way to shorten my comment and have it still make sense.
I know Trump stays up late posting on Truth Social. Still, it doesn't seem possible that he writes all those screeds by himself. Is there a style manual that staffers must use to know WHICH WORDS TO CAPITALIZE, etc. Have journalists investigated this?
Springfield, Ohio is the hometown of historian of tyranny Timothy Snyder. Remember "They're eating the dogs, they're eating the cats!"? The sequel to that is about to unfold. That Ohio's own (former) Senator J.D. Vance spread this propaganda about his constituents is particularly disgraceful.
"We Are Called for Such a Time as This" was the best mixing of religion and politics I've ever seen: Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernandez (NM3), Santa Fe's Catholic Archbishop John C. Wester, Roshi Joan Halifax. Acoma Pueblo elder Conroy Chino, and their host, Presbyterian Minister Andrew Black.
