And the action movies were cursed by the unreasonable expectations set by franchise movies of the era.

If the Edo who sentenced Wesley Crusher to death in the early Star Trek: TNG episode "Justice" all spoke with Italian accents, you would probably find yourself thinking "Whoa! This thing is really derogatory towards Italians."
