"Of course, we have to teach our students about AI technologies. Teaching about AI technologies
should be just like how we teach ‘no smoking’ or the causal links between lung cancer and cigarette
smoke; yet, we do not teach students how to roll cigarettes and smoke them." - I love it.

A full disk image of Earth, as seen from the Orion capsule. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. From about 8 to 9 o'clock, a large brown landmass is Africa, with the Iberian peninsula twinkling with lights just where the planet curves. At the 1 o'clock spot, aurora glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space. Credit: NASA/Reid Wiseman

set this to "every state" to find out how many duplicates we have. for instance, did you know that illinois has the most state capitals out of any state, at 25? the smallest state capital is raleigh, ND, and the largest state capital not in its own state is columbus, GA

It's not just Iran whose surrender is being demanded. It's yours. Your hope. Your belief in yourself and our collective potential. Your empathy. They want to crush those things. They want you to believe their will is inevitable.

They want you to surrender.

[alt text by NASA] The Moon, seen here backlit by the Sun during a solar eclipse on April 6, 2026, is photographed by one of the cameras on the Orion spacecraft’s solar array wings. Orion is visible in the foreground on the left. Earth is reflecting sunlight at the left edge of the Moon, which is slightly brighter than the rest of the disk. The bright spot visible just below the Moon’s bottom right edge is Saturn. Beyond that, the bright spot at the right edge of the image is Mars. Credit: NASA

Whoa 🤯

The Moon, in full eclipse, with the #Artemis II Orion spacecraft. Part of the Moon and spacecraft are lit by Earthshine, and both Saturn and Mars are visible to the lower right. Incredible. Details: images.nasa.gov/details/art0...

Looking through one of the four windows of the Orion spacecraft, a tiny crescent Earth is illuminated against the blackness of space and grows smaller as the crew journeys closer to the Moon. Part of the window edge is visible; the rest is darkness. [Alt-text slightly revised from ESA/NASA version]

One great thing about this article is that it is absolutely certain that it was not written by AI, because no word is at all the most plausible word based on the previous word.

As curator Nicholas Herman says, "Really, how many books of hours do you need? And sometimes it's just not worth the cost to maintain ratty old books with no aesthetic value." The sale is today only, so place your orders now! Check out the list here: tinyurl.com/SIMSmss4cheap

I know that there are a lot of different ways to be in the world, but I actually cannot comprehend how anyone who uses GenAI to do some of their research and/or writing thinks of themselves as a thinker and writer.

The thing that makes me a writer is that I do my writing. I also do my prep for it.

People call me crazy and a "celebrity Stan whore" whenever I point out that these smear campaigns are carried almost entirely by bots.

Amber Heard, Blake Lively, Megan Thee Stallion, Chappell Roan, even men like Pedro Pascal and Timothée Chalamet (yeah I'm going there) get these bot campaigns.

I’ll say it again: a “research” university that cuts majors because of “low enrollment” should have to relinquish its claim to be a “research“ university.

"Galileo prayed each time he sat down with The Almagest." I like this idea that, when assessing the universe & the centuries of human endeavors to understand it, we are in the presence of something that is itself miraculous.

We are At War now, according to President Bush, and I take him at his word. He also says this War might last for "a very long time."
Generals and military scholars will tell you that eight or 10 years is actually not such a long time in the span of human history - which is no doubt true - but history also tells us that 10 years of martial law and a wartime economy are going to feel like a Lifetime to people who are in their twenties today. The poor bastards of what will forever be known as Generation Z are doomed to be the first generation of Americans who will grow up with a lower standard of living than their parents enjoyed.
That is extremely heavy news, and it will take a while for it to sink in. The 22 babies born in New York City while the World Trade Center burned will never know what they missed. The last half of the 20th century will seem like a wild party for rich kids, compared to what's coming now. The party's over, folks.

There’s a thing your body does automatically, all day long, that gives your brain a micro-reset. That’s right, blinking. On my next podcast I’ll explain my method for extending a single blink over the course of multiple hours. It’s called blinkmaxxing, and you won’t believe the refresh it gives you.
