ONCE A RED Saturday afternoon’s clash with Austin FC will seethe Reds come up against a familiar face in winger Jayden Nelson.The Brampton, Ontario native originally joined the Toronto FC Academyin 2017 and spent six yearsprogressing through the ranksat the club. He signed a contractwith TFC as a Homegrown Playeron January 23, 2020, becomingthe 23rd player in club historyto sign for the first team fromthe Toronto FC Academy. Nelsonmade 50 combined appearancesacross three seasons (2020 –2022), scoring his lone goalagainst Real Salt Lake on April9, 2022, and was part of thesquad that lifted the postponed 2020 Canadian Championship withvictory over Forge FC on June 4, 2022. Prior to the First Team, hemade 14 appearances for Toronto FC II during the 2019 USL LeagueOne season, including his professional debut against Orlando City Bon April 6, 2019. Nelson joined Rosenborg BK in Norway’s Eliteserienin February 2023, spending two years in Europe before returning toMajor League Soccer. He featured for the Vancouver Whitecaps duringthe 2025 MLS season before joining Austin FC in December 2025,where he recently scored his first goal for Los Verdes against InterMiami CF on April 4.
