Still amazed we got this return to the Enterprise. It was perfect.
Three years ago today. #startrekpicard
Scanning our bedtime story with a tricorder, as one does.
On this day three years ago aired "The Bounty," which I remember thinking must apply to the bounty on Jack, but surprisingly, actually meant the old ship. So many great moments in this one. "What's your temperance for some, shall we say, minor larceny?" #startrekpicard #thebounty
Nice review! I was also really surprised by Cunningham going on the offensive to recruit Jamie after he found the message. Just like Tryon getting Jamie to pledge loyalty in exchange for the land...what is he going to do??
I love your reviews!
Agree the scene with Brianna and Claire was hilarious and so well played.
Do not agree that it's clear yet that Fanny is actually Jamie and Claire's granddaughter. They would be just as good to her without that. I just can't abide the thought Faith was stolen from them!
Nice review. I haven't read Bees, so this season (except for one major plot point) is new to me. I thought it was good, especially when Ian said he looked up to Jamie as a father, but Jamie admitted he'd never gotten to parent his children as babies :(
Kirsten Beyer's novels are so good - starting at Full Circle and going through to To Lose the Earth. In the middle of those, The Eternal Tide is one of my all-time top five Trek novels.
Unexpected fandom overlap. Now I like Sam even more!
Favorite VOY quote.
"The minstrel boy to the war is gone, in the ranks of death you will find him..."
Underrated great one.
New Star Trek is great! Three more months until the new Picard novel release date... ๐ #startrekpicard #startreklegacy #treklit @daytonward.bsky.social
I am pretty sure the original Ars article is what started me as a viewer (I found it around S5 of TNG, so pretty early on). Ten years is an amazing milestone. Congrats from this FoD ๐๐ผ (And here's hoping Adam and Ben start over again on TNG.)
Beverly - that you can be a professional and a mother and successful at both.
๐ฏ Seven's arc was excellent. So happy she ended up as captain of the Enterprise.
I kind of look at S3 like Last Jedi. I would rather not have started off with Picard where he was in S1 or Luke where he was in TFA (the Litverse & Legends remain my ST/SW canon) - but given that by Kurtzman & Abrams, Matalas & Rian Johnson created amazing stories that I love.
So, S1 I think was fairly good overall but left me ambivalent. S2 was an absolute mess narratively that still has some wonderful individual threads and character moments. And S3 I absolutely loved. Thank goodness for Terry Matalas.
He didn't want it to be a TNG reunion, but I don't think he really understood that the ensemble made the show. I actually really liked the new cast, but S3 (which I unreservedly adore) proved it. There was just a fundamental misunderstanding of the character.
I was so excited for this premiere - Picard is one of the most influential fictional characters in my life. And at the time it seemed so promising. But I ended up with profoundly mixed feelings about S1 in particular. And I mainly blame SPS for that ๐ #startrekpicard
I mean I couldn't say no to that! He's very cute ๐
So anyway, we're watching "Pen Pals" now before bedtime. Thanks @trekranks.com
I told 4yo he can't watch TV tonight because it's a school night, and he said, "But Mom, I really want to watch Star Trek because I sure do like Star Trek like you."
Oh, I loved these picks! Especially Vox, Latent Image (how has that only been picked one other time? So brilliant), Tapestry, Pen Pals (honestly forgot about that B plot), and Drone. I probably would have picked Journey's End for my Wesley episode. Great discussion!!
I haven't watched it yet either, but my younger kids are obsessed with the soundtrack and I have to agree it's really well done (and way too catchy).
Merry Christmas!
I feel like this topic could be better directed at season 2, which made so little sense it makes my head hurt. (Despite individually solid moments throughout.) S3 hangs together pretty well overall except for some dramatic license choices that didn't take me out of the story.
Except Picard Season 3 counts in my mind.
Podcast stats for the year appropriately Trek-themed (at least my lovely kiddos couldn't mess these up like they did with my music :) TGG and Greatest Trek would jump to #1 if combined.
