Why Agonistic Workplace Democracy by Tim Christiaens in Review of Social Economy

Why Agonistic Workplace Democracy by Tim Christiaens in Review of Social Economy

New paper on agonistic workplace democracy 🚨

Workplace democracy is too often viewed as peaceful & deliberative, while implicit hierarchies from within & without the workplace skew interactions. We must acknowledge conflict to dismantle these hidden inequalities.

All it takes is people who aren’t cowards and take their oaths seriously. Sadly, too much to ask for far too many.

Back from my winter holidays (happy 2026!) and reflecting on 2025 professionally, I realize @sotonpolitics.bsky.social, led by @piariggirozzi.bsky.social is still the best department to work in. Still supportive and still wonderful! 💜

📚 Fiction books I enjoyed reading in 2025: a much longer list (I read 30) includes books I didn’t enjoy but forced myself to finish, and books that were brilliant but so depressing that I would rather forget them. 📚

How can politicians make citizens more accepting of costly climate policies?

Our new study shows that people are more likely to support policies, even if they involve personal costs (!), when diverse stakeholders are actively included in decision-making.

A critique of our (w/ @bertous.bsky.social) paper “Instrumentally inclusive” has just been published.

Our response is under review (see below on process) but we feel obliged to share our draft for balance since the comment has been released without the response.

@ipp-csic.bsky.social. En un día como el 25N hay que contarlo: La violencia contra las mujeres se esconde en la intimidad de los hogares y se cobra víctimas cada día globalmente con un coste social abrumador: No podemos ignorarlo ni tampoco relativizarlo. @csic.es

NEW! How should Labour respond to the two key issues to voters of the economy and immigration and what are the electoral stakes this week of the budget?

Read on for our answer...

Feelings of financial insecurity are costing Labour support. And, if this budget doesn’t help people feel less worried about finances, Labour will lose more votes on its handling of the national economy AND on immigration too. Financial insecurity is *compounding* losses on other issues/evaluations.
