The fuel protests in Ireland are a Trojan Horse that aim to bring fascism to Ireland. We are witnessing the birth of an Irish version MAGA. The more you look, the more obvious it is that many of the key spokesmen (and they are all men) are dangerous anti-immigrant far right agitators.Wake up.

‘My background cringes me out’: Jack Whitehall on poshness, comedy and his lockdown romance ‘After every tour, I hate the sound of my voice,’ Whitehall says. Yet here he is, working on a new standup act and about to host Saturday Night Live. What does he have to talk about this time, apart f...

The Guardian likely weren't allowed to ask Jack Whitehall about choosing to appear at the Riyadh comedy festival.

It will be interesting to see if SNL UK has the backbone, or if we'll all just join in with the 'ooh posh people, aren't they funny' schtick.

I tried to get to WHSmith to pick up a "slightly cheaper" sandwich earlier and ended up doing a complete circle and walking back out the door I came in. I don't even remember turning right.

Sooner or later, the deregulation dickheads always reach this point.

That British people are planning to vote in droves for people who literally wouldn't care if they burned to death is baffling.

When I was a child my mother bought a hostess trolley. It looked insane in our cramped little house. But she'd spent the cash and insisted we use it all the time, bumping and scratching as we went. It was, in every way, a worse experience than just carrying stuff yourself. This is a post about AI.

I think of this every time I hear someone (and Andy Weir is just the latest silly example) say they put no symbolism, or politics, or subtext, or whatever in their work.

What a shame they didn't have someone like 'The Basher' to gently correct them in their formative years.

RIP Sir.

"Not true, Mr O'Reilly. It may mean nothing to you, although I doubt that.

"I, however, can take many meanings from it."

It was immediately apparent that he was right and I was wrong.

"Don't wanna be a rabbit in a jam jar,

Don't wanna find out who you are".

When I triumphantly presented this in class the next day, saying "there you go sir, this means absolutely nothing", he said:

One of my English teachers, Jim 'The Basher' Quinlan, died recently in Cork.

When I was 14, I challenged his view that all poetry meant *something*.

So he challenged us to write a poem that meant nothing.

The only two lines I remember are:

That was my takeaway too:
a) how would you write without using *any* symbolism?
b) why would you want to?

Rules to curb trans people's rights to participate in anything opens up everyone's manner, clothing, physical appearance to intrusive scrutiny and potential challenge. A worked example. History also shows allowing erasure of rights for one group soon sees others targeted. This is not a 'them' issue.

There's a lot of competition for the worst person but the thing about Rowling that sometimes pushes her to the top of my list is that she has absolutely *nothing* to gain from her grim awfulness to - and campaign against - trans people. It's pure unbridled hate for its own sake. She just enjoys it.

This is really shit behaviour, sort yourselves out. Afghan women deserve an education. And in all cases restricting student visas to throw some red meat to the Reform knuckle-draggers is both garbage behaviour and self-defeating. @labouruk.bsky.social @labourlist.bsky.social @labourlewis.bsky.social
