I appreciate this. Biggest lesson I've learned, is that they're not really friends if you really have to pick and choose your words to not upset them.
And that they can't see you for who you are, they just want to assume they were right due to past experiences.
You can kinda see the same answers in games like Mass Effect or the Star Wars movies. The first game/movie was worth the experience even if it didn't pay off to the ending until later.
I think your answers lay within how Lord of the Rings is structured for instance. There's a LARGE adventure ahead. Not everything gets wrapped up in the first book. Some small plot development or story arcs are solved but overarching call to action isn't finished for a while.
