New rules mean many DC restaurants are closing streateries The District made streateries permanent. But restaurant owners say the rules are too costly and complicated to keep them up.

DC implemented a new policy for its streeteries that cost restaurants $20,000 to implement.

The result: virtually every restaurant eliminated their outdoor dining, many have reduced their hiring, & now a few cars can park more easily.

Congrats on the successful policy change, DC government!

Clever timing! I wonder if it’s intentional

I regret but am not surprised to report that one person still doesn't think hyperloop is transportation vaporware, because of course it's Elon--posting that the Boring Company "could build a Hyperloop tunnel from downtown SF to downtown LA for <5%" of a new CAHSR estimate of $126 billion.

4 ways I am a “moderate” What do I believe that's moderate? What do DC leaders believe?

Not surprisingly, saying a bunch reasonable and non controversial things that are middle grounds on major debates: that article has gotten the least social media engagement so far. moderatesforjaneese.substack.com/p/4-ways-i-a...

"David, you launched Moderates for Janeese... what do you mean when you say you're a moderate? What is a moderate anyway? Are you really moderate?" Here's why I'm one, and why you can be moderate and not satisfied with Bowser. moderatesforjaneese.substack.com/p/4-ways-i-a...

I am not one of those who believes that history repeats, but consider the following from Herodotus: the Oracle at Delphi told the fabulously wealthy King Croesus that if he invaded Persia he would "destroy a great empire." Croesus invaded and lost--the empire he destroyed was his own.

I don’t think we should teach people that lying is good.

Janeese Lewis George will keep my kids safest when we are riding bicycles I sometimes walk, sometimes drive, sometimes ride Metro, and sometimes bicycle to get places I’m going.

When researching this, I realized something. Bowser, JLG, & McDuffie all condemned Trump’s move to delete the 15th St bike lane. JLG & Bowser also cited args 15th was GOOD.

McDuffie only condemned Trump involvement; he never praised the lane itself. Meaningful?

There are areas where the mayoral candidates are similar, or a little vague, or won’t have the deciding power anyway. But regarding bicycling, the difference is stark. @janeese4dc.bsky.social will keep us and our kids safe. moderatesforjaneese.substack.com/p/janeese-le...

In addition to this, there are/were those GAS powered delivery mopeds around DC that said “Fly E-Bike.” They were not in any way an e-bike. Not even e at all.

DC's affordable housing crisis is a policy choice. I'm running for mayor because I believe everyone who wants to should be able to live in our city.

Read my full housing plan at the link in bio.

That’s still super unhelpful from him and clearly played a role if Parker came in and unstuck it instantly. As I wrote, maybe it’s just poor staffing and Parker has @fixcircle.bsky.social but that stuff matters too.

Thanks! It’s a good point either way so hope you don’t delete - either he was unhelpful from the start or claimed to and didn’t follow through - neither is good

Thanks. Did he say in meetings he was for closing the gap and would help, and didn’t?

This is *exactly* how McDuffie treated us on the MBT gap on 8th St NE for years and years.

Literally the first month Parker replaced him as Ward 5 CM, Parker started issuing public letters demanding it get fixed and it was fixed within months.

This is the design of the Route 1 project that's not happening yet? Or one of the ones they did do (Army Navy, Clark St, etc.)? Is Route 1 on just a pause or is it not happening?

Oh yeah, I've been wondering what's going on with that. Boulevarding seems nice in theory but that specifically seemed like a bad idea and they'd just make it super wide with a million turn lanes (already too many turn lanes and long lights around there)

Those of us who've followed the Park Service for years can now add one more thing to long list of ways they've had a terrible effect on DC.

And the 2nd entrance and the VRE station, right? Arlington got an amazing deal it seems.

Kenyan McDuffie says to look at his record. Well, a few years ago he offered to push for more homes for more people, and... nothing. moderatesforjaneese.substack.com/p/great-staf... @janeese4dc.bsky.social

I noticed the commentators weren’t talking for most of it. And then once they started again one guy said “I hold my breath until main engine cutoff” - I hear that

Congrats to everyone who’s worked on this. Let’s hope it kindles an excitement about exploration and what humans can achieve for the next generation.

When I was nine we watched a Soace Shuttle launch. It was the Challenger. This is the earliest major news event I can remember.

Today my son is nine and got to see an awe inspiring space launch.

I’m fine with any mayor who thought, early in Hyperloop’s life, “this seems like BS but why not have a meeting?” I’m not fine with anyone who now can’t say, “yeah it turns out this was total snake oil”
