You're almost through what fans call "the slog". Book 10 is going to stop your momentum dead, I highly recommend doing it by audiobook or reading chapter summaries.
Books 11-14 are a runaway train, but you feed to get there first.

Nelson Mandela is the First Age Dragon:
Liberated his people through perseverance and struggle
Endured unending physical and mental torment
Led uMkhonto weSizwe ("Spear of the Nation") just like the algai'd'siswai ("Dancers of the Spear")
Face of the national currency, he is literally Rand

iWot = vaporware

It's not even worth giving them the publicity of coverage.

NB and killing the girl serve different purposes. The girl is an accident and unforseen casualty, NB is a deliberate sacrifice of innocents, a huge indicator of the extent of his madness. Much different in intent and in the level of regret Rand feels after.

If you had Asmo instead of Sammy, you'd tweak how the "eventuality" is instigated and unfolds. It wouldn't be the direct responsibility of a Forsaken, rather Rand's own actions/hubris/madness or whatever could be the cause, and he would blame himself while leaving Asmo still open to be a teacher.

I have to finish what I started now😊
Most likely a two-parter with how much material is in S3, but there's a lot needed.
The cutting between shots is too tight so things need to be moved consecutively to give scenes time to breathe. And some waste without enough payoff (child bride, Melindhra, etc)

It's between this and "twice and twice" for the opening scrawl of my S3 fan edit. I'm leaning towards twice and twice, more on point.

For the amount of screentime they were given per episode, the editing oftentimes felt manic. Many of the episodes feel like montages of scene clips, rather than full scenes. Longer episode length would have helped by providing breathing room.
Something I'll try to fix in my fan edit 🀞🏾

Most of these are adaptation changes which you're having an allergic reaction to. What about the ep as a standalone TV finale without the books?
Ps. I'll share my key takeaway about the show: WoT is a "vibes" based show; it will NOT hold up under scrutiny. To enjoy it, you must just feel the vibes.

That's my theory. It will be their chosen name (pun intended). I do think 50/50 that Shara won't exist in the show. Let's see how they spin it.

1 year ago 0 0 0 0

I think it will be a certain arc that RJ had intended but then abandoned because the fandom quickly guessed what it was. If they do (a version of) that, I would be happily surprised.
My own theory is that the relevant person will take on the role and the name.
I hope that's vague enough!

Yes it was edited to heck and felt like a montage of scene clips rather than full scenes, with the audience asked to buy into emotional stakes that weren't set up (I will try to fix this in my fan edit).
But IF you went along with it, some of it landed well for a TV final
What exactly didn't u like?

Small plug: I edited the first 2 seasons into extended length films (links in my bio). It will be a much quicker watch but still covers the core story centered on the main protagonists, and streamlines a lot of the more confusing or extraneous bits so it's easier to follow and more focused.

Just pick up the first book ace see from there? Wheel of Time isn't for everyone, but those who love it, LOVE it.
Your best bet is to just start and see if it grabs you.

There's an important thematic role she plays:
What does a stilled Amyrlin actually do now? How does she find her place and purpose in the world? How can she still influence the White Tower and the world without any power?
The book answers all of these and a LOT more spoilery things I can't get into.

I know you meant "you" in the general sense, but I'll take that as instruction for the fan edit πŸ˜‰
I sympathize with the editor. It's clear they had to cut the footage to shreds to fit a strict runtime. There are entire scenes that are <10s long before moving on. No editor would do that by choice.

It surely must be Asmo. But then why waste time on Sammy?
You do need some version of Demandred or equivalent for late book stuff. So whether it is him truly (at the exchange of Asmo) or a stand-in that is functionally him (some interesting ways to do that), he will somehow be there

A joke that didn't need any time invested whatsoever in being adapted to screen.
Especially when the primary complaint is "not enough episodes and not enough runtime".

1 year ago 0 0 0 0

It's a waste of precious screentime. And Asmo is by FAR the more intriguing Forsaken with the much greater story potential of the two.
You bring Asmo in earlier and give him more story, LONG before you decide on bringing in Sammy and killing him off. If I was the showrunner, that would be my logic.

1 year ago 1 0 1 0

"If". In other words, why would you make that a writing choice for your show?
Given you are working under severe time constraints, you now need to separately introduce Asmo, which takes time you already spent on Sam.
You've also cheapened the Forsaken, how does that advance the show's narrative arc?

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

But this is a flaw of S3 in total. Episodes are edited as montages starting from 301 already (304 is the only one with complete scenes and basically perfect continuity for the ENTIRE runtime)
I aim to fix this in my fan edit.
As badly as 7 is edited, I don't think it's the worst episode vs its peers

1 year ago 2 0 1 0

The show is effectively using only 7 Forsaken, and now has to square away how to bring Asmo and Demandred both in. (There are some good theories how to, but...just why waste a slot on Sammael in that case?)

1 year ago 1 0 2 0

Exactly, so why even have Sammael in the show and give him part of Asmo's arc? Make it Asmodean and end it like the books.
If you're gonna streamline Forsaken from 13 to 8, why use one that you're gonna waste time on, only to introduce the one who will actually be relevant, delayed a season later?

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

Wow people really dogging Ep 7. I get all its flaws and how much "less than" the books it is (talk about wasted potential), but ranked against the season I wouldn't have put it at the bottom.
Not the first ranking I see it in last place, a surprise to be sure!

1 year ago 6 0 2 0

There isn't enough screentime per episode, so they are edited down to the bone (a fault of the whole season except Ep 4)
It feels like a montage skipping from scene to scene with not enough time to absorb any story progress, that "scattered" feeling you mentioned
I will look to fix it in my fan edit

1 year ago 0 0 0 0

I'll need a rewatch, but 304 is definitely at the top and for now 305 is definitely at the bottom
I thought the finale was a top half episode despite having a lot of criticisms about the writing of certain scenes and arcs
307 is much higher for me (I understand its many flaws though so no surprise)

It could have been Asmo. Him going after Rand and getting captured is already in the books. It being Sammael adds nothing to the show, and actually takes away setup time and story arc to develop Asmo.
Melindhra's contribution is exceedingly marginal for the sake of a whole extra actor and story arc.

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

How is this better than having it be Asmodean in the first place? This way you end the season on a strong point of intrigue (Rand has a captured Forsaken as a teacher) and you lose nothing from what was already written for Sammael. You also save about 15 mins screen time having to set up Asmo in S4.

1 year ago 1 0 1 0

Exactly my thoughts. Same with Liandrin's back story. Two wasted cold opens that we already had enough context for.
The show makes strange choices in how to prioritize limited airtime, then laments not having enough episodes of enough length πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™‚οΈ

1 year ago 1 0 0 0

We give up Asmodean in S3 and basically give his opening arc to Sammael...to what benefit is delaying him to S4 exactly and not setting his arc up now?
Plus then you're left with completely rewriting Demandred.
