"The latest release of the Epstein files coincided with my toddler, husband, and I contracting norovirus. While my son, exhausted from vomiting, slept in my arms, I scrolled. And scrolled. And scrolled."
Read @katherinemurray.bsky.social's letter from the editor in our new issue:
I’m supposed to be at #AWP but I’m on day 6 of an icky virus 💔 the FOMO is devastating. Hope you’re having a wonderful time and I hope to see you in Chicago next year!

Likely-historic photo by NBC News of all the Epstein victims asked to raise their hands if they've not yet been asked to meet with the DOJ as Bondi testifies in foreground

"My daughters sketch monarchs, create stories. They drape their old baby blankets around their shoulders as wings. As they zoom past Mom, she can only reach out for them, her smile weak, her grasp left empty."
from @linalau.bsky.social's essay, "The Chrysalis," in our Sept/Oct issue:

Theo loves #independentbookstoreday! And Verbatim Books will always feel like home 💙
I read it after toddler bedtime and my husband was at an out-of-state “work dinner” sending me pictures of steak while I was eating the leftover Cheerios from my son’s cup … very meta reading experience!
I bought four copies for Mother’s Day gifts!
@rachelyoder.bsky.social This seems like the setting in which Nightbitch was meant to be watched (solo parenting, boogers in my hair, and too tired to clean up the toys again). I read your book in one sitting and cried. Your book and Paris Paloma’s “labour” made me feel seen. Thank you 🩵
The Dodgers played like shit today and still won. They are now 8-0.
This could be a problem for the league.
Before today, I thought that this would be the most embarrassing text gaffe we’d see in our lifetimes

"Meg March specializes in getting good looks, and her outside game is unstoppable. She moves well without the ball and moves well at balls. But Meg’s vanity causes her to choose ill-fitting high-heeled boots known to cause ankle injuries."
A defense.gov article about Jackie Robinson leads toa 404- Page not Found page and the url includes "DEI" in it.
The Department of Defense deemed a story about baseball hero and civil rights leader Jackie Robinson's time in the Army as "DEI" and deleted it.

Yellowjackets and The Sopranos both take place in New Jersey in the 90s. If Meadow Soprano had been on that plane, the team would’ve been found in like three days tops

Free workshop for high school students: “writing as resistance”
I’m excited to facilitate this workshop for high school students! Many of my students are feeling paralyzed by the political landscape and need a space to generate ideas and camaraderie (and they can mention it on their college apps)
Black and white single panel cartoon of a man in a suit, standing behind a podium with a cookie "seal" in front of a cookie factory, announcing: "Let me assure you that as an unpaid 'special factory employee' Mr Monster stands to personally gain nothing from this work." Next to him is The Cookie Monster, waving, happy smile, googly eyes, bright blue - the only splash of colour in the panel.
Superb, by Brendan Loper in the New Yorker. Simply superb. ~AA
