There are trees growing on the whale's back, a reference to an old folk story about sailors who mistake a gargantuan, sleeping whale for an island.
Had a charity project that needed a few quick spot illos, so I figured it might be a good justification for picking up a pencil and trying to sketch again. (Also, brush markers are terrifying and absolutely great for speed-inking.)

The wings are 100% Sophie, though. And I definitely was trying to draw this one in the "Reaper style." Given when it was sketched, I'm pretty sure this was a warm-up to shake off the rust and burnout and get a few pieces done for a Kickstarter project. 😅
Not actually Sophie (I know; shocking), although the old sketch was done as sort of an antithesis to her - pale, gothy, short blonde hair, and not as relentlessly "girl-demon next door." Just for fun, I combined that doodle with my sort of go-to comfort OC, Cobweb, and this was the result.
