A wet physics gamedev adventure This is a blog post chronicling the initial development of a physics-based water game of sorts using C, Box2D, SDL3 and OpenGL. The idea of it is something I have been wanting to make into reality for a long time, and the concept is inspired by one of my favourite games of all time.

Blog post about the initial development of my Hydroventure-like water physics game project is now up! It ended up being my second longest blog post, and the most media heavy one by far. Hopefully I haven't missed anything.

i am so scared

Last week I began working on a water simulation thing in C with Box2D and SDL... First I used the SDL renderer to just render some lines and circles to the screen. But after bolting on a nice water metaball shader with OpenGL I decided to just write my own 2D OpenGL renderer (uh, yes!).

Update on my Hydroventure-like game thing:

Last weekend I implemented some rudimentary Tiled map rendering as an experiment, but concluded that it wouldn't be suitable. I wanted something more polygon-based that would also transform perfectly to static objects in the physics world.

In 2012, Hydroventure: Spin Cycle released on 3DS eshop!
A sequel to the WiiWare title, this game sees you navigate liquid through mazes and puzzles by tilting the 3DS. One of the eshop titles I put a bit more time into and a great one at that!
