Kathy in a leather jacket looking fierce

Happy birthday, Kathy Acker, a great writer and a lovely person. We saw a press screening of Cronenberg's Crash and Fire Walk With Me on opening night. In both cases, we were the only ones smiling at the end, laughing at the waves of movie hate all around us. Love you, Kathy.

There's a section of Lone Wolf & Cub where guys with ladders keep attacking Ogami and Daigoro on a row boat and this is what comics are all about.

Crime writers, what is stopping the cover of your next book from looking like this?

3 days ago 23 6 1 0

Got this great plan to murder an absolute scumbag. I’m even gonna do it on the world famous Orient Express. Every detail is perfect. Nothing could go wrong.

Just before the train left this funny little Belgian man with a moustache got on, but that’s probably nothing to worry about.

So I killed this lady, right? But I’m so safe. Covered all my tracks.
The cops don’t know what they’re doing and the only other person around is this weird lady senior citizen who insists she’s some kind of “mystery writer.”
I’m golden!

This one time? I murdered a guy who was blackmailing me and I made the plan really complicated but it was worth it because it was the perfect murder.

Anyway, I think I am in the clear. The homicide detective is this unkempt Italian guy, real bumbler.

Cheap cigar.

I’m home free, I know it.

The image is a book cover featuring an artwork in a halftone style. The background is a textured blue with the title "CROSSROADS" in large, bold white letters at the top, with a small orange "X" below it. Below the title, in smaller white letters, it says "FOLK HORROR IN THE UNITED STATES." The central image depicts a serious figure in halftone, with shades of orange and black, against the blue background. The left edge of the cover has a vertical orange band with white text

I forgot to say earlier that this morning, I finished reading this, and it’s GREAT. Congrats to @crossroadsfolk.bsky.social and @theharvestmaid.bsky.social. I took my time, because I knew if I liked it I was going to want to dive into more, and that’s what happened.

Because they clearly recognize these guys.
And that guy was definitely an actual actor in old movies.
I want to cry right now.
The world is so wild and weird on top.

Then one of them introduces the other one to me as a big action star from a long time ago. BUT HE DOESN’T TELL ME HIS NAME 🤬I show them my tattoos of 김기영 and 김수용 and they are floored in their drunkenness and start saying “thank you! Thank you!” (2/3)

Next book for my book club is The Talented Mr. Ripley. I haven't been mesmerized by a book like this in so long. I feel like I read bits of it ages ago but *definitely* before I went to Italy and 100% before I lived in another country. Highsmith was an absolute genius.
