Can These Israeli and Palestinian Tour Guides Find Common Ground?

@azizabusarah.bsky.social & @maozinon.bsky.social’s book “remains true to the horror while refusing to be defeated by it.
It is raw with pain and rage and yet bravely insistent on the imperative of hope”

Poignant @fotoole.bsky.social review of “The Future is Peace.”

I met Bogie twice, during and after 2014 Kerry process to revive two-state solution. He was scathingly opposed to it. And to Pal state.
If you’d told me he’d be quoting Leibowitz a decade later I’d have thought you were insane.
Much credit due for moving in opposite direction to rest of Likud…

Interesting Arab Barometer poll by Khalil Shikaki. Notable how little trust Palestinians have in almost all institutions. UNRWA & Red Cross— followed by civil society— enjoy most trust. But there’s less than 30% trust in PA, Hamas, Courts & religious leaders…

The Blogs: As Trump Meets Bibi, Poll Finds Global Desire to Invest in Peace Plan From the blog of Avi Meyerstein at The Times of Israel

As Trump Meets Bibi, Poll Finds Global Desire to Invest in Peace Plan
While "facts on the ground rightly fuel ongoing skepticism," ALLMEP's recent 64-country poll still finds "int'l will to help Trump & the parties move forward." 🧵

Big news: UK will host March meeting to launch Int Fund for 🇮🇱🇵🇸 Peace. Allowing scaling of civil society peacebuilding at moment when future is more contested than in living memory. Can help ensure those committed to peace & equality write the next I/P chapter

Is civil society the missing piece in post-Gaza diplomacy?  | Euractiv Palestinians and Israelis are painfully aware that the status quo has failed them. In such a moment, the ideas that take hold – whether constructive or destructive – will shape the future for a genera...

Excellent piece by ALLMEP’s Brian Reeves on civil society’s role in Gaza & wider I/P diplomacy:
“Civil society stands ready to build the ground game that turns political frameworks into lived reality.
It is time for the international community to meet them halfway.”

Radiohead in London on Monday, Wolf Alice in Paris on Tuesday.
Both amazing (tho very different!) shows. And as an overworked father of two small kids: prob my gig-quota for six months, filled in 24hrs

Proud to join- and grateful to- the 80+ Palestinian & Israeli ALLMEP members who came out to meet today to strategise about the way ahead. And how civil society can buttress this fragile (esp in recent hours) ceasefire, & lay groundwork for it becoming something much more transformative and lasting

Every heart should soar to see Israeli captives home w/ their families. Oct. 7, 2023 was an atrocity.

*And* we must recall that, of the ~2000 Palestinians released in exchange, many were innocent captives of Israel, which prohibits them from speaking to media once released

“Finally, we will be able to close this dark chapter & move on to the next chapter of Israeli-Palestinian peace.”

Exactly the right attitude. Celebrate this reprieve & the lives it will save. But make this *a first step toward actual peace,* which requires ending the occupation.

More details will come, and long road ahead. But guns are falling silent, hostages are returning, aid is reaching Gaza, and parents may reunite with their kids. No one should go to bed fearing for their life or loved ones. Many will feel that vital thing: HOPE.
For the first time in v long time…

2yrs since one of worst days in living memory, catalysing darkest/most dehumanised period in 🇮🇱 🇵🇸 history. My hope is that historians speak of this nightmare as prologue. With a turn toward peace & equality from those now staring into abyss. Proud to know many people working everyday to make that so

Most non Jews don’t know how securitised Jewish spaces now are. Guards (often armed), metal detectors, security doors. I’ve spoken at mosques, churches etc: No other faith has this, is targeted as frequently nor is subject to as much/any whataboutism or geopolitical context when threatened or scared

Bomb proof doors. Barbed wire. Coordinating with police. Community security service. Drilling congregants about the security protocol. Withholding the details of events publicly for security reasons. Always being on high alert. The list goes on.

And it’s still not enough.

What more can we do?

The Day After: How Israelis, Palestinians and global peacebuilders seek to shape a new way forward

Good to join @whilderbrandt.bsky.social to discuss how France & Saudi Arabia made ending Gaza War & the TSS the chief themes of #UNGA80; Macron roundtable with ALLMEP & I/P civil society; & how POTUS can transform trajectory of events on Mon with Bibi meeting

Thx Anna! We presented to Macron and Barrot in UNGA on monday and the data also had impact. We’ll do some more surveys in coming weeks and see how trajectory is changed by events this week

6 months ago 1 0 0 0

Thanks Anna. The margin of error is 5.8% as we prioritised doing three consecutive studies (April, May, Aug) to track trends. Rather than one bigger snapshot. But it you subtract the margin the findings still fairly definitive

Good to join @f24debate.france24.com to discuss ALLMEP & @parispeaceforum.bsky.social civil society roundtable w/ Macron at #UNGA80 as Pal state recognised. With:
✅ new ALLMEP poll showing 🇮🇱 🇵🇸 🇺🇸 support for regional TSS deal
✅ vital role civil society must play on the ground in making it a reality

🇺🇳🇮🇱🇵🇸It might actually be a positive that Trump's hour-long speech before #UNGA barely mentioned efforts for a two-state solution, argues ALLMEP's @johnlyndon.bsky.social
Could U.S. position be in flux at this "fork in the road moment" for Israelis and Palestinians?

Dozens of settlers injured at least ten, inc man & woman in 80s, 13yo boy & a pepper sprayed 6 month old baby.
All less than 40 days since civil society activist Awdah Hathaleen was murdered by Yinon Levi. Who was since released & could plausibly have been involved last night.

Total impunity

Dutch and Swedish foreign ministers send joint letter to the EU foreign affairs chief urging tougher action on Gaza/Israel.
Note penultimate bullet point: the Commission is supposed to have drawn up an analysis about whether the EU itself is in compliance with International Court of Justice opinion

No, quite the opposite. It is an atrocity and I have no time for people denying it
