FYI, Kate Atkinson Fan Club: Transcriptions is being discussed and then dramatised on the radio tomorrow, Sunday www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...
This post reminded me of applying for a job at the OED in the early 1990s, and, as part of the selection process, having to write a sample entry for “ciabatta.”
Who is manufacturing Pope Leo t-shirts because I want one.
A collection of handmade zines on my table. Pens, scissors, glue and eraser also visible. Titles of zines include ‘Finding joy in small things’; ‘Be like St Francis and spread joy with small acts of kindness’; ‘A little book about St Francis of Assisi ‘.
I’m looking forward to some writing & zine-making this week with some Year 6s from a local primary school. We’re going to be finding out about St Francis of Assisi & his love for animals & the natural world, as well as his advocacy for peace & kindness. #zines #stfrancisofassisi #writerinschool
I’m holding the paperback book in my hand - it says Kate Atkinson ‘Transcription’. The book has a pink flamingo on its cover
In other news, I’m excited to learn that there is a radio adaptation of Kate Atkinson’s book ‘Transcription’ (liked it V much) starting this Sunday on BBC R4 #RadioDrama #KateAtkinson #BBCRadio
“The Gospel of the Beatitudes is at the very essence of the Church’s mission, and no one or nothing, deluded by the illusory glimmer of arrogance, will be able to hinder this proclamation.”
Cardinal Reina, the Pope’s Vicar of Rome: “Speaking on behalf of the people of God in the Diocese of Rome, I join them in expressing solidarity and reaffirming our full support for our Bishop, Pope Leo XIV, in the face of shocking attacks on his teaching of peace.”
Surely this is the day all the winter gardens will shatter, release
their crystal treasure, the pent-up breath of our ambition, so tomorrow,
life will be measured in a value greater than the body’s weight in blood

Thank you! St Francis would have loved your work! As well as being an environmentalist and defender of the poor, he also advocated for dialogue and not war during the time of the Crusades - it’s 800 years since his death and he still has plenty to teach us 🍃🕊️
I’ve been experimenting with handwritten zines and I’ve made some using Word and inserting a text box. A lot of trial and error and fun!

🇻🇦🇺🇸 Pope Leo told Reuters he didn't "want to get into a debate" with Trump.
"I don't think that the message of the Gospel is meant to be abused in the way that some people are doing."
"I will continue to speak out loudly against war, looking to promote peace, dialogue and relationships…"
BREAKING: Lebanon is seeking a ceasefire deal with Israel through direct negotiations, says Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji.
USCCB President: “I am disheartened that the President chose to write such disparaging words about the Holy Father. Pope Leo is not his rival; nor is the Pope a politician. He is the Vicar of Christ who speaks from the truth of the Gospel and for the care of souls.”
“We don’t deal with foreign policy with the same perspective he might understand it, but I do believe in the message of the Gospel, as a peacemaker.”
Pope Leo aboard flight to Algeria: “I have no fear of the Trump administration or speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do, what the Church is here to do. We are not politicians”

“Pope Leo is WEAK on crime” followed by a post of an AI slop painting of Trump as Jesus healing someone from the heavens with an angel Statue of Liberty behind him. There’s no fever high enough to hallucinate this stuff
I doubt that Pope Leo XIV will lose any sleep over this, before he begins his pilgrimage to Africa tomorrow. But the rest of us should. Because it is unhinged, uncharitable and unchristian. Is there no bottom to this moral squalor?
The US president has attacked the leader of the Catholic Church in a social media post, accusing him of being ‘weak’ on crime and of ‘catering to the Radical Left', after the pope criticised the US-Israeli war against Iran.

Orban has lost. What a great day! (Unlike some sundowning clowns we know, he has admitted he lost, too.)
Pope Leo XIV on Saturday called on world leaders to reject war as a means of settling their differences, urging a global commitment to peace.
Cardinal McElroy: “We entered this war not out of necessity but rather choice…Each of these policy failures is equally a moral failure which under Catholic just war principles renders both the initiation of this war and any continuation of it morally illegitimate.” www.cathstan.org/voices/text-...
"It is not enough to say that we are Christians. We must live the faith, not just with our words but with our actions." #PopeFrancis
Hundreds have rallied in Tel Aviv against the Israeli government, demanding an end to war and warning against what some describe as a cycle of never-ending conflict.
I’ve got out of the habit of posting anywhere other than reposts. I’ve mainly been in church, on trains, in hospital visiting someone poorly, gardening, planning some upcoming writing work with Year 6s, feeling exasperated with the news.
