How can you be expected to handle work on a day like this?

I encourage anyone who is sober curious to try a Dry January and see how you feel. Your body will respond pretty quickly to the new normal and you’ll be able to view the changes in your health and social life within the first few weeks.

Small added bonus that may be a huge bonus for some folks is the $ savings. I’m not buying 3-4 $19 beers at the ballgames. Not buying that $80 bottle of whiskey. Not buying 24 beers every other week.

Overall it’s been positive. I don’t think I’ll stay sober the rest of my life. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss catching a buzz, but I think this will help me enjoy in moderation. I figured I’d have triggers like parties and ballgames, but once you decide and plan on abstaining it’s a mind game.

I have an angel for a gf who isn’t a drinker and although we’ve gotten in a few spats over the years due to drinking, alcohol hasn’t been a wedge in our relationship, but our bond improved. Instead of me needing breakfast tacos on Saturdays to function, we have a ☕️ date at a new spot most weekends

I wake up at 6 and sometimes get some exercise in before the day begins. I could never consider doing that before. I needed an entire Sunday of doing nothing to recharge and revitalize. I’m not wasting half of my weekend loafing on the couch anymore.

Folks that are sober curious have asked me how I feel. I feel great. Binging every weekend for 17 years I didn’t know what I was missing. Biggest change for me is the SLEEP. I sleep like a log now. My mental clarity is the best it’s been since I was 18-20 years old. I’m performing better at work.

I wanted to shed some weight so I could climb better in the rock gym. I’ve done that! My skills have improved pretty drastically this year. Im stoked on that. Im exercising more regularly and the endorphins are paying dividends. I’m happier in general. Overall mood is just plain better.

I got sick of feeling like dogshit every Saturday and Sunday morning. I’m approaching 40 years old, starting to feel my age. Drinking over 2,000 calories of beer/alcohol a weekend isn’t ideal.

It’s been ~11 months without a drop of booze. For anyone wondering why I’m doing this, a few reasons. Did I have a problem? I don’t think so, but I would binge drink Friday and Saturday nights most weeks, with another day here or there for ⚾️ games or special occasion.
