Almost everything we argue about is a substitute for the thing we should be arguing about: the immense wealth & power of an oligarchic class, which captures governments, ruins lives and wrecks the living planet.
This class redirects our rage at scapegoats. To resist its lies is to resist its power.
Exactly. And the prospect of a Reform government. They think they want it, but it’ll take smoking the whole pack to teach them otherwise.
My long-standing theory is that certain voters need to be treated like kids who've been caught smoking. They only start to work out how badly they've miscalculated when they're forced to smoke the whole pack.
The trouble is that they're not the only ones who suffer for their poor choices...
I have a pretty good idea what Iain Banks would've thought of Musk.
Walsh's idiotic stance depends on everyone joining him in pretending that parenthood is a purely biological act, when it clearly isn't. I'm a parent of two fine humans, but they don't share any of my DNA.

100%! I've become pretty ruthless about ditching anything that stops entertaining me or veers too far into cliche. It does take a while to get out of the mindset of thinking 'I've got to see how this finishes!', though...
Fair point. :)
That makes perfect sense when it comes to series (though I don't think I'd be forgiving enough to wade through three or four stinkers in a row...)
What I'm seeing is people giving writers one or two star reviews for multiple stand-alone books, which seems a tad masochistic.
The 'we need to find the guy who did this' hot dog man meme.
Keir Starmer needs to just style it out and go into the Commons dressed like this.
What is up with those people on GoodReads who read loads of books by the same author but give every book a really low star-rating? Did they just forget they hated all the other ones?
When simulation becomes the norm, it weakens the human capacity for discernment. As a result, our social bonds close in upon themselves, forming self-referential circuits that no longer expose us to reality. We thus come to live within bubbles, impermeable to one another. Feeling threatened by anyone who is different, we grow unaccustomed to encounter and dialogue. In this way, polarization, conflict, fear and violence spread. What is at stake is not merely the risk of error, but a transformation in our very relationship with truth.

Amazon's algorithms seem to have taken one of their periodic dislikes to me and all my infernal works, so if you'd like to give them a gentle prod by buying a book or reading a few pages on Kindle, I'll be your pal forever. *

Tice and his pals impoverished Britain with Brexit.
Now this born-with-a-silver-spoon-in-his-mouth spiv is out to make himself even richer by ripping us all off even more.
What kind of idiot falls for his ‘Reform will fix it’ bullshit?
Well said.
Most of the resistance to rejoining or at least beginning to repair the damage is based on nothing but hot air. For instance, regaining full SM/CU access would be good for everyone - but the few remaining Brexit hardliners would still scream betrayal’, with zero explanation.
Same here, and that’s because they’re still lying. They don’t even have the decency to admit what they did - they’re still telling us Brexit caused absolutely no harm at all.
❤️ Thank you!

‘I’ll be back … after this advert for sweatshop clothing brands!’
The great thing about my CD player is that if I play an Adam Ant song on it, it doesn't spend the rest of the week telling me I want to listen to Kajagoogoo or showing me adverts for pirate shirts.
Throw a few pennies in the old writer man’s hat, guv?

Photo of a Red Rebel on the front of a zine with the words Rebellion! and Davenant in white below. The zine is lying on a wooden floor.
The zine for Rebellion! is now available in my shop. It has 55 photos distilled down from 40,000 taken over the life of the project. I’m very pleased with the quality of the printing and hope you like it https://marcdavenant.com/product/rebellion-zine/
