Cheers to Moonpig who have just scored the double whammy of reminding me to send cards not only my dead mother but also my dead ex mother in law.
Names and everything.
Solid work there!

This one resonates deeply with all of us at UWTSD libraries.
Library get this downstream "our lecturer says we can use AI, how do we do it?" Library get to translate this into suitable tools that the University subscribes to.

@missoliviareads.bsky.social and Taran Johal from U Wales TSD Birmingham at #UKSGForum2025 Wider role of the library in information literacy and digital literacy now extending to AI literacy - keeping up with the fast-moving baseline that is helping students progress into the world of work.
Any Librarian followers able to suggest a good online sheet music resource that covers Musical Scores?
Apparently Nkoda doesn't offer what this lecturer is after?
An ‘ultracrepidarian’ (19th century) is one who loves to give their opinion, at length, on matters they know nothing about.
You're not failing, you're feeling.
Chances are, he's completely forgotten all the stuff you're holding onto right now. X
My daughter is named after my Nan - the number of times MIL moaned because she wasn't named after her mother. She's my ex MIL now - when mum died she sent a sympathy card addressed just to the kids. Bitch!
Recently had an incident with a burst cat food pouch that had gone bad and was stinking out the house.
I'd cleaned the house top to bottom and managed to convince myself that I was, in fact, the smell before I actually found the source.
Silver lining was a clean house! That almost never happens!
Oh man, and now another old schoolfriend has jumped on the Terf-train.
This is all so disappointing.
You think you know people.....
Today has changed nothing
All Trans people are welcome on here

The basis of librarianship is that we do not censor.
Let's not pander to this nonsense here and continue to offer a balanced collection.
Director Susan Seidelman will be the special guest at an international conference to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Desperately Seeking Susan - one of the defining movies of the '80s
Can't even begin to imagine the state of the bogs at that big Slayer gig in Cardiff that's been announced, good heavens

Could you get vouchers for something like a massage or beauty treatment? A small slice of self indulgence for someone who deserves it?

I cannot understand this decision. Universities are struggling to fund resources as it is - the risks associated with signing up to a subscription deal are enormous at the moment.

This really felt timely:
Disobey: their power comes from your obedience
Since living alone, the cat has worked out that meowing in the night doesn't get my attention.
Instead, I get pawed in the face followed by her flicking the pages of the books on the bedside table.
The cat has adapted and found the weak spot of the librarian. She's an evil genius.
Yesterday I went from not putting my camera on in a meeting as my laptop was on the wonk and it looked like I was floating from the ceiling-to explaining the intricacies of library cataloguing and acquisitions to a customer service excellence assessor.
The whole professionalism spectrum right there!
"Welsh place names are difficult to pronounce" how the fuck do you pronounce Slough?
ME: *sits at desk and works* Just focus. Just focus. Don't look around. Do NOT look around.
THE NEWS:
The Resistance will depend on public libraries for everything from organizing sessions to triage and first aid. Mark my words. Let’s not let the libraries die before democracy. Here’s Baltimore’s Enoch Pratt Free Library flagship. I grew up taking back books late.
The Victorians were insane. “Yeah, we’ll make children work till they die but, look here: we’ve got budget to make sewage-pumping stations look like cathedrals, man!”
This is Crossness Pumping Station. To be filed under “real buildings that look like AI”.
