First off, please call your reps about HR 7661.
Secondly, Last Night at the Telegraph Club (on the list) is a masterpiece and everyone should read it.

As the editor of a book on this list, allow me to say again that book banning is a catastrophe for freedom of speech in America. There is no silver lining. It's all harm.
You can fight back by calling your reps to demand they vote against HR 7661, which is effectively a national book banning bill.
How to turn a paywalled Atlantic article into a New York Times news alert in one easy step.
Drop your crime-fighting Catholics:
If only the secretary had actually finished watching Pulp Fiction.
"But that shit ain't the truth. The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin'. I'm tryin' real hard to be a shepherd."

Every single time anyone tells you to feel good about the world because of something stock markets do, read this article.
Without question.
Shoulda been The Smitten Kitten.
The key criteria for a just war include 1) just cause, 2) legitimate authority, 3) right intention, 4) last resort, 5) proportionality, and 6) probability of success. Trump's actions against Iran can be challenged on ALL SIX COUNTS.
Every one of the 700 students at Hampshire College survived COVID & Trump during their childhoods. And now this. And Hampshire is not uniquely precarious among private colleges in the US.
The one thing these kids haven't seen is a narrowing of wealth inequality.
It doesn't have to be this way.
What if we didn't have to bare our souls to get you to listen.
What if survivors didn't have to peel back their own scars to show you the wounds.
What if men knew women to be as human as they are and did not perpetuate or ignore our dehumanization.
What if this didn't have to happen.
This piece is (rightfully) going bananas.
If you're reading this or sharing it, please ALSO know you can be a hero to protect libraries. All you need to do is write your House and Senate representatives AGAINST HR 7661.
Here's what it is and what to do: bookriot.com/hr7661-advan...
Christ, I just clicked through. They paid for Jude Law and “Take Five.”
I'm not saying there are no serious uses for LLMs. There obviously are. But it seems clear that the practical value of LLMs for businesses is far beneath the scale of investment the AI companies and their backers have made, and so the nonsense and the slop and the arm twisting of CEOs continues. 2/2
An ad for an AI product called "Lenora" aimed at lawyers featuring Jude Law.
🧵You don't need to look much farther than the ads to see the fundamental unseriousness of most AI solutions for actual work. This one, as seen at the top of the New York Times homepage for me all day, is a real gem.
They're paying Jude Law to be a fucking pun. 1/2
I hope Apple CEO Tim Cook is haunted by his appeasement, that he never forgets every excruciating second he spent watching MELANIA on the day Trump's private goon squad murdered Alex Pretti. I hope when he closes his eyes he sees himself giving a trophy to a man who wanted to order a genocide.
The same week the NYTimes was devoting its significant resources to producing this ridiculous piece about Lauren Sanchez Bezos's call for rich people to not worry and be happy, Ryan Hass, an independent journalist in Oregon, was investigating this horrifying story about a death in an Amazon plant.

Minnesota investigates the arrest by ICE of a Hmong American man as a possible kidnapping
In January, ICE officers bashed open the door of ChongLy Thao's home at gunpoint without a warrant, then led him outside in just his underwear and a blanket in freezing conditions.
a screenshot of the "New Bestsellers" list from Substack, with Andrew Tate in the #1 position
Hey, look at Substack promoting Andrew Tate as the #1 new bestseller. The company's amoral leadership & backers will platform anyone, even ludicrously toxic rapists & human traffickers.
For more than a week, Amazon has managed to keep a death at its Troutdale, Oregon, facility out of public view.
Workers I spoke to are pissed.

I want to identify every single plane that carried one of these kids to a camp.
he's counting on people not knowing what a doctor looks like because they don't have healthcare
Trust me, you don't need to be a Christian to feel that the post is another gigantic red flag. That his AI slop is blasphemous is the least concerning thing about it by a mile.
FC St. Pauli presents the Peace Prize in the US for the first time. The award honors individuals and initiatives that stand for solidarity, participation, and respectful coexistence. The first recipient is Wes Burdine, owner of the Black Hart of Saint Paul in Minnesota.

A screenshot of consecutive Bluesky posts, the top showing Trump's AI slop post of himself as Christ, and the bottom from an account that posts fragments of Hieronymus Bosch paintings, this time from "The Last Judgment."
Sometimes a non-algorithmic Bluesky timeline feels eerily sentient:
I’m sorry I cannot with these JD Vance plants stories now shit. He’s an incredible hero, says a highly placed source. Come on. Someone big call this out!!
Librarians are called groomers for defending the right to read, including books that might feature, gasp, queer folks
Meanwhile, old, adult, conservatives are lamenting that 15 year olds aren't getting pregnant
On national television
As if that isn't fucking gross
Our culture is fucked
No doubt. I have partaken in good faith of the tools offered. ChatGPT is a very good search engine and is genuinely useful for things regular Google is terrible at. It's a nicer tool for certain tasks I do regularly, but for me it would only be transformational if I cared less about my books.
Gee...*who* fired this immaculate projectile?
Answer: a federal agent.
