Library of Flowers: 4.5/5 stars ARC Book Review: Commentary on cultural identity issues Witch perfumers who control emotions An undercurrent of romance but a focus on family conflict Loveable and relatable bisexual cast

I finished #TheLibraryofFlowers ARC courtesy of #NetGalley.

I enjoyed this book! Itโ€™s about a line of Chinese witches who can control emotions through perfume. Itโ€™s mostly a drama around the conflict over the FMC's ability to grant love through her perfume. 4.5/5

Check it out on May 5.

Library of Flowers by LC Chu

Library of Flowers by LC Chu

Overview
Rooted in memory and steeped in magic, The Library of Flowers is a radiant exploration of family, identity, and the expectations we inherit, perfect for anyone who has ever carried the weight of a legacy-and dared to make it their own.
For centuries, the Hua women have held sway over the courts of emperors and billionaires with their magical perfumes able to stir hearts and ensure fortunes. And in every fifth generation, an eldest daughter is born with the rarest gift of all: the ability to summon true love.
As a long-awaited fifth daughter, Lucy was supposed to be the miracle her exacting mother had been waiting for. But when her magic failed, Lucy fled Vancouver, her legacy, and the expectations that had nearly broken her. Now, years later, she runs a tiny perfume shop tucked away in Toronto's Kensington Market-crafting beautiful, perfectly ordinary scents and keeping her extraordinary past firmly behind her. That is, until a death in the family brings her home...and saddles her with an unwelcome inheritance: the centuries-old Hua family register, brimming with secrets, formulas, and forgotten truths.
As Lucy unravels the stories of the women who came before her-including the mother whose complicated heart she never could understand-she must confront the tangled threads of love, power, and identity...and ask herself whether her magic was ever truly gone, or simply waiting for her to decide for herself what it means to be a daughter of the House of Hua.

I got and started my first ARC #TheLibraryofFlowers from #NetGalley! Itโ€™s about perfumers who come from a long line of Chinese witches who can control emotions with their creations. Iโ€™m really enjoying it so far! #booksky

I hadnโ€™t either but then my friend turned me on to it and I gobbled up all 25 of them and moved on to her other series! It was really good!! Interesting world building and politics, lots of shifter types and other species. Pretty unique!

Does anyone like gay romance here? Gay sports romance? Soccer specifically! I am writing one, intertwining the fated mates trope in a fun way:

When you meet your soulmate, you regain one of your missing (or depreciated) five senses. In other words, your soulmate completes you.

I've found myself in a bit of a writing slump recently and have decided to do contests and flash fic prompts as a way to reboot my brain. So far, it is forcing me to write a little bit, and that's a win in the very least! Even if it's just within specific parameters, I feel like I'm building muscle.

I loved the prompt for this!

Have you read Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series? There are bears but later in the series. All different kinds of shifters and inter-species politics!

Eleni's Book Review:
- 18+ books in the series that are all amazing
- transported to a fantasy world
- varied cast of humans and creatures
- incredibly deep world-building
- an inkeeper levels up as she tries to survive
- killer audiobooks
- I didn't know what to expect going into this series or what
'lit rpg' was, but l'm glad I took a shot on this fantastical world filled with adventurers and monsters. It's inventive and funny. I immediately binged all 18.
- rated 5 out of 5

My first #bookreview here is going to be the #wanderinginn. The first was free on audible and it sucked me in so hard I binged all 18. It's not something I'd typically read but reminded me of DnD. #fantasy #booksky

Sometimes I want to read queer books without the societal homophobia. Yes, it can be cathartic to read a shared experience, but fiction can also be fiction tooโ€”an escape!

I had lunch w my dad & he asked me about my writing. He asked how many pages Iโ€™ve written. I try to tell him why things like page size, margin, font, etc. can all effect that, so I look at word count instead. He didnโ€™t get it.๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

REMEMBER: All the "Don't use em-dashes" "don't use rule of three" advice because it makes your writing "look like AI" is because they stole actual writers work, and their "predict the next thing" stuff just simulates what WE FUCKING DO. Keep writing well. Use every style and trick you have. Fuck AI.

Iโ€™ve been working on my book for a while now and happen to love a good em dash!

Now Iโ€™m hearing c/hatgpt uses them too and am wondering are people really going to think AI wrote my book if I include them? Do I need to edit them out? Sigh. #writingstruggles
