DC is such a special place. Thanks to all of you who came out and thanks to those of you who I met tonight! Long live the Open cup, as I said earlier.

Hey DC soccer folk, come out to Barracks Row tonight, I'll be speaking on this panel + there's a bunch of other cool s**t planned as well. Long live the Open Cup (and the lads from Club Eleven)
actually, nm, it's Gregg
I think you're failing to realize that the funniest thing he could possibly do RN is hire BJ Callghan
Update: I reached out to the photographer, Chantal Anderson, who told me this was pure coincidence - says she’s never seen the Donovan photo (until, of course, I sent it her way, 😂).
dude is this real, i'm shaking
Dude... what?

NEW: Sporting directors are chronic mid-to-long-term planners. After Matt Crocker’s sudden exit, US Soccer is left to wait and hope his initiatives will pay off.

Hey, that very strange shoulder seam “bulge” on the new Nike kits? I talked to them about it and they’re weighing what to do about it. Such a bizarre quirk to an otherwise stellar set of kits.

Incredibly insane experience, mentally, to listen to our President offer another unhinged rant about the war in Iran while three Americans are approaching the moon and offering their own thoughts - all of which are eloquent, important and beautiful: www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3kR...
Tore through my friend & colleague @paultenorio.bsky.social’s new book in three days. He expertly tells the story of Messi’s journey to MLS, his time here & the greater implications for the league and 🇺🇸 soccer as a whole. Sickos & casual fans alike will love it. read.macmillan.com/lp/the-messi-e…
update from the bar: “promiscuous girl” just came on and the white folk are going insane
NEW: A frustrating March window begs tough questions about Mauricio Pochettino’s squad for the World Cup. @anabnos.com, @mlsist.bsky.social, and I picked our #USMNT rosters, and disagreed on…
- GK3
- Two defense roles
- NO midfield spots
- AM3
- ST3

Nobody on the US men’s national team is worried about Christian Pulisic’s severe lack of goalscoring form.
At least, nobody is saying they are. @mlsist.bsky.social from Atlanta: www.theguardian.com/football/202...
From Mercedes-Benz Stadium, here are @anabnos.com, @jeffrueter.bsky.social and I's initial impressions of another deflating US loss, this time at the hands of sixth-ranked Portugal.

Once again, we are doing it live!
#USMNT v Portugal, from me, @jeffrueter.bsky.social & @mlsist.bsky.social: www.theguardian.com/football/liv...
The walk to the stadium here in Atlanta today has already proven one thing: the crowd, today, will be a much tougher task for the USMNT than it was on Saturday. Extremely heavy Portugal presence for this potential sellout. Wonder how many of them know he's not here.
Standing at field level of the $1.6 billion Mercedes-Benz Stadium, @mlsist.bsky.social gazes upward at the magnificent, extremely high-tech roof mechanism. "I can't wait til this place is abandoned," he says.
Asked Portugal HC Roberto Martínez today what he makes of the USMNT as they stand. Tells us the 5-2 wasn’t quite a fair score line against Belgium & that he views Pochettino’s US side as having a clear identity. Says he doesn’t make much of March games in general.
Last night's preview of the series did NOT reveal whether Paramount tracked down footage of Clint jumping into Pablo's Rampage (which had the Landon Donovan water fountain strapped into the bed at the time) after his Hall of Fame induction
Thankfully we do have some documentation already
Caught a sneak peek last night of “You Don’t Know Where I’m From, Dawg,” the new Clint Dempsey doc coming soon on Paramount+.
I’m in a few episodes, which was a real thrill - Clint’s story is a unique one, and I was super excited to help tell it in a small way. Make sure you give it a watch!
The manner of the United States men's national team's 5-2 loss to Belgium on Saturday called to mind the team's eliminations to lowlands countries at the last two World Cups. And posed a few questions about progress.

Horrible result aside, Saturday’s USMNT/Belgium match was marred by a pair of other issues: hydration breaks in a domed, air conditioned stadium, and uniforms that could barely be told apart.
On @us.theguardian.com: www.theguardian.com/football/202...
Well, that was not ideal.
Here's @mlsist.bsky.social's first take on USA 2-5 Belgium: www.theguardian.com/football/202...
On @us.theguardian.com, my match report from the USMNT's 5-2 embarrassment against Belgium. At times, it felt like it coudl've been even worse. Woof. www.theguardian.com/football/202...
Interesting chat today with Josh Blank, who is leading up Atlanta's NWSL efforts. I asked whether that club will share an identity w/MLS' Atlanta United — told me he expects some similarities (colors, I suspect) but wants the NWSL side to have its own, clearly defined brand identity (name, etc.)
