So, the guy who thinks that witches have taken over California is now the acting Secretary of the Navy? Super.
I have one sitting in a jar of formaldehyde on a shelf in my office.
Ergo, my office is conscious.
This piece is incredible because you're like "oh so that's what did it" like five times and by the end you're just like "jesus christ make it stop"
I DID THE THING
Okay. I wanted to make a space where I could write weird ideas and thoughts and half-mad dreams and ALSO invite all of you to comment and chat (without resorting to the suck hole that is FB). It is free. Just sign on up and let's be weird.

Lost me for a sec when I read USS Bush — “oh shit when did he die how did I miss that?” — before I realized it was HW.

I can see it now, the host sounding like he was gargling while talking, roaming around the back of the studio away from the bright lights that might melt his freshly applied spray-on tan.
Here’s your deal on Agency! (I love this cover!)
Such a fantastic book! Highly recommend!
Went to a book club meetup the other night and sat next to a guy who had liberally applied some sort of cologne. Here I am two days later putting on the same (unwashed) shirt I wore then and lord have mercy I can smell that cologne in my shirt. I JUST SAT NEXT TO HIM WE DIDN’T EVEN TOUCH WTF 🤮
I remember naively and confidently telling a university professor back around 2009 we would *always* be a nation of innovation, and him creasing his brow and sincerely & doubtfully saying “you think so?”
Since 2015 there has not been a week that goes by without me thinking of him.
💔I grew up in Clearwater on Orangewood Way; our home had an orange tree and a grapefruit tree, left as a remnant of the grove that used to be there in the early 1960s. The fruit was delicious. Closest OJ I could find to the flavor after I left FL was Natalie’s. I wonder if they’ll go under too. 1/2
Totally off-topic, but did y'all the know the Free State of Florida's citrus industry is basically dead??
This is quite a story:

And omg you haven’t had the finest honey in the world if you haven’t had orange blossom honey. I’ve been getting some from California, not nearly as good as FL but I never went back to FL after the pandemic and I guess that’s the end of that, too 😭

What a great thread. I love the no-nonsense practicality of someone who sees something needs doing and just says fuck it and makes the sacrifices and does what’s needed. 🫡
Feel like I should save this for the next cynical “no one’s coming to save you” rant…OH YEAH? SOMETIMES THEY DO!
we all know I have no life, so:
The inherent tension between a 4.3% unemployment rate and getting told during an interview that you were one of the hundred people who applied within the first day a job was posted for a temporary contract position explains the difference between the economy on paper and how the economy feels.
Joy Was Never Yours to Have
Dear White Folx,
"Nothing in whiteness teaches you about joy, pleasure, play, and passion that isn't about control, entitlement, or competition. You don't know joy just to be joyful."
I said this on the Yell Fire! podcast recently and I want to sit with it here because it names something...

This @npr.org story includes advice on getting the best prescription drug deal we've run down before. Including:
1. Talk with your doc about cheaper alternatives, including generics.
2. Shop around — including for drugmaker discounts. And compare sites when you look.

We must require ALL data centers and other extremely large corporate users of electricity to generate their own electricity at their own expense If we don't do this, we are either idiots and/or masochists.
Browsing this company's website and the only way I can describe what I'm seeing is imagine a school shooter was a management consultant
Someday, with luck and hard work, she will have a name too.

My brain has already started ruminating on the can of caffeine-free Diet Pepsi I have in the fridge, wondering how it would be if I concentrated a k-cup (I don’t have an espresso machine), let it cool, then added it to the DP…
I’ve added cheap red wine to coke for a trash girl sangria (yum!), so 🤷🏻♀️
Well, I didn't expect to see this on camera. Western fence lizard catches a bee and eats it.
The lizards are insectivores that feed on a variety of invertebrates, including bees, wasps, beetles, flies, caterpillars, and ants.
This is a 1st for the water dish!
❤️🦎❤️
That sounds amazing! Ok I know this won’t be the same, but the “dirty soda” trend is taking off and here in Denver we’ve got two indy coffee shops offering a coke/coffee drink. Might it be possible one of your local coffee shops is also offering them? Maybe it’ll come back in a can by 2027!
