WaPo: “Biff Tannen’s constant bullying of George McFly is just good old fashioned horseplay. Hell, it builds character!”

WaPo: “GEORGE MCFLY MUST BE CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AND BIFF SHOULD SUE HIM!!”

A meme depicting side by side photos of John Dalton (Patrick Swayze) from the movie “Roadhouse”.

The photo on the left is a headshot of John Dalton with a kind expression, and the words “be nice” written above his head.

The photo on the right is John Dalton looking like he’s had enough of someone’s bullshit and he’s about to deliver a punch. The words “… Until it’s time to not be nice.” are written below his head.

A sticker of the newly redistricted map of Virginia is overlayed over his raised hand.

This Is meant to represent the we cannot continue to engage in kindness and fair play to those who continually hurt us and do not play fair….and, as such, Virginia Democrats were right to redistrict their map and fight back

What did the GOP expect? “Be nice forever while we punch you nonstop in the face??”

Scene from back to the Future. George McFly, having long been a victim of bullying by Biff, stares at his hand in wonder at his newfound power after knocking out Biff. The scene has been turned into a meme wherein George represents the democrats, his hand and newfound power represents the Virginia redistricting. A picture of Thomas Paine has been added with the words “ha ha ha, yes….YES!” next to his head, representing his glee at democrats finally realizing the proper way to deal with tyrants.

Moderates: (feebly) “Hey you. Get your damn hands off her.”

Virginia democrats: *steel jaw, tighten fist, put their hips into it, full body rotation*

George McFly stares at his hand in a mixture of shock and bliss, having realized that he had the power all along to deck the asshole that had tortured him throughout his life.

Surprise, Biffs of the world!

I like how we’re pouring out our most extreme and depraved fantasies on this thread and it’s just….responsible government and moderate liberalism.

We’ve been so abused. 😂

Delicious.

That + a robust database with AI tools that lets them tunnel through shell companies like a walrus through clams.

Would be something if the centrism scales start falling from their eyes and by 2029, Hakeem’s rolling into the Capitol like Avon Barksdale.

I think they are definitely the most “left” and, if that’s the case, I think it hammers home your point - there no chance we push for liberalism, overshoot and “oh shit, we’re zapatistas!”

100% agree.

I mean, do we even have one person in congress that has a hard left VIEW, let alone a true “leftist”?

Man, I miss grand reform thinking.

We’re not gonna policy our way outta this one.

It is INSANE to me that, other than Sean Casten, i’ve not heard any other member of congress talk about expanding the house.

With one law, we could decalcify half of our legislative branch. What are we waiting for???

Add it to the 737,828 photos/videos that we take….and will never watch!

In all seriousness, that sounds like another unnecessary pebble of mental load.

Maybe it’s a budgeting thing, but it sounds like something Mitch Hedberg would make a joke about.

That’s weird. We incorporate Venmo into our marriage in a healthy way:

Only my wife has it and knows how to use it. 😂

Thank you for sharing this. I’m so sorry you are going through this AND because im part of the problem.

I enjoy your work very much, I can absolutely pay for it and, therefore, I should have supported you on patreon months ago. As soon as I get home, consider me a new Haus Cat.

Freud has you covered, Will.

In 1905, he wrote “Jokes and their relation to the unconscious”.

He makes the distinction between tendentious/non-tendentious humor. The latter makes you laugh - the former is for releasing suppressed aggressive urges.

And, like Max Weber outlined in “politics as a vocation” (1919) - the more “certain” you are - the less responsibility you feel.

“The believer in an ethic of ultimate ends feels ‘responsible’ only for seeing to it that the flame of pure intentions is not quenched.”

Take it all the way back to where we really left off: Thomas Paine.

No surprise, I guess.

Ted Kaczynski was an Ellul fan too. But that resulted in an insane manifesto.

Which is what Karp seems to be. Kaczynski, but with more money.

It’s amazing. Karp has PhD in social theory from Goethe University.

He cites the Frankfurt school as an influence. He has almost certainly has read many of their works. He almost certainly has read Ellul’s “The Technological Society”.

Yet, this was the result.

Eventually, I got tired of yelling “Jesus christ - read (insert pre-1960s philosopher here*)”

*and Paine. God, does he need to read some Paine.

I think the very first podcast I listed to was one where he talked about Neil Postman and Marshal McLuhan, which I enjoyed.

The (few) podcasts i’ve listened to since then have ranged from disappointing to maddening.

He really should have continued down that path and read Russell, Huxley, etc.

These were also more “grounded”.

You had buttons. It was a more tacticle experience. You had to select cassettes. Put them in. Rewind them. You had to wait.

You had to take conscious steps to activate that entertainment. And it stopped when it was “done”.

You had more control.
