Australians ‘uneasy’ about NDIS cuts amid $53bn in new defence spending, Mark Butler concedes Minister tells Guardian Australia despite substantial changes to disability scheme, it will remain one of best support services ‘anywhere in the world’

"Australians ‘uneasy’ about NDIS cuts amid $53bn in new defence spending"

That's one way of putting it.

How about: the Albanese govt's priorities are fucked. #auspol

A gas export tax would drive down domestic gas prices & fund vital public services at a time when Australians are feeling the pinch.

@grogsgamut.bsky.social & @elinorjohnstonleek.bsky.social discuss taxing gas, plummeting aid spending & the upcoming federal budget. #auspol

NDIS a victim of familiar scare tactics – while untouchables roll on We rarely speak about how the NDIS became a catch-all because we don’t have enough social services and supports to help people who need it.

Listening to the gas executives yesterday while also listening to the health minister explain why we just can't afford to give support to people who need it, was just one of those WTF are we doing moments. (Plus an overheard convo that stuck in my mind) www.thenewdaily.com.au/life/health/...

The gas ripoff. Japan collects more on our gas than we do - Michael West The Japanese Government makes more revenue taxing its imports of Australian gas than the Australian Government does from exporters.

So cowed by the foreign gas lobby .. the failure of successive govts is so epic that the Japanese tax *our* Australian gas more than we tax the foreign multinationals which export the stuff

Israel must understand that they can’t turn on and off the ceasefire whenever they want under international law.

If Israel can turn the ceasefire on and off whenever it feels like bombing Gaza and Lebanon, it's not a ceasefire. It is: you cease, I fire.

Election landslides aren't legacies, but a 25% gas tax could define Albanese's The decisions made by Anthony Albanese in the next month will likely define Labor’s legacy for decades to come. Surging energy prices give the PM a unique opportunity to tax the gas industry, fund the services Australians are crying out for, improve the budget bottom line and expose the shallowness of Pauline Hanson’s support for ‘ordinary Australians’.

The problem with the NDIS - and there is a problem - is the same one Australia always faces. If you let small businesses exploit the public purse, they'll exploit it mercilessly (remember pink batts or any one of a 100 such programs). The key is in the system design, not the auditing of it.
