Former President Barack Obama met with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani for the first time Saturday, joining preschoolers at a child care center for a book reading and singalong.

Blast from the past: Some Irish Pun Huskies I made up about 10 years ago. Happy St. Paddy's!
This is Wiley. He has never seen snow before and wants to make sure he gets a real good look at it. For science. 12/10 (IG: smileywileydog)
I just read the best description yet of a bad writing day:
A day when “the words arrive with the effort of trying to do proctology on a stampeding horse while both you and the horse are blindfolded.”

JANE FONDA: “I know Don Lemon. My husband created CNN. And I will fight for their right to speak… they arrested the wrong Don. This is how autocrats act. We can’t fall for it.”
Some social media posts tried to warp the evidence of the killing of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, including in ways intended to support the Trump administration’s narrative about it.
Made the local paper this weekend.
@petebuttigieg.bsky.social: "We have an ICE agent who should have been trained not to be in front of a vehicle and never to shoot into a moving vehicle, and yet this happened on [Kristi Noem's] watch. The whole POINT of Homeland Security is to make this country more stable and safe."
“Writing itself is a difficult and exacting process, and nothing I know this side of sunbathing in a cyclotron can break a human being as quickly and thoroughly.”

First award for my book, "Tales of the Beechy Hollow Great Outdoors Club."
A Literary Titan Gold would have been nice, but this is probably more motivating—there's always the next book.
And the badge looks cool on my cover. 😎

Genre fiction has intrinsic value.
Never forget that.

Cover of Jim Harrison's book "Legends of the Fall."
Is revision always necessary? Not for Jim Harrison:
"I wrote Legends of the Fall in nine days and when I re-read it, I only had to change one word. There was no revision process. None. I had thought so much about the character that writing the book was like taking dictation."

Graphic of my book and a pulled quote from Literary Titan.
My first editorial review is in... four stars from Literary Titan.

That’s not just a White House demolition. That’s Southern-style middle-finger politics in action.

First reader-submitted photo of my book shared on social media. It was fun seeing this.

My first book is finally live on Amazon! It's been a tough, but rewarding journey. Thanks to all for the encouragement along the way.
Here's the full wraparound cover with art by the talented @kimberlybrown.bsky.social
(Hopefully, the art shows up.)

My first experience dealing with Amazon KDP has mostly been positive. I'm thankful for the unlimited edits. I've uploaded my manuscript several times, each time thinking it was the "final" version.
Weird that they allow pre-orders for the ebook, but no reviews before publication.

Yes, editing can be painful.
F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote to his friend, Maxwell Perkins, that he cut 18,000 words from his book during editing. The book was "The Great Gatsby."

Keep in mind that EVERYTHING he says or does going forward is to distract from the EPSTEIN files.

One "good" thing about my dog's UTI -- she's been getting me up at 4:30 a.m. every morning the last few days. So, I've finally joined the 5 a.m. writer's club.
(She's on medicine and getting better.)

"You want to cultivate a clear blank—a mind that is open, vulnerable, and plain. Empty, basically, of thought. This is a writing mind. When you are empty, you are able to focus."

Bonnie Friedman:
A young painter comes to Michelangelo and says, 'I've seen your religious paintings. Teach me to depict the human soul.'
'Fine,' he says. 'Learn to paint a human knuckle. Observe it closely...study its shifts of color. You paint a soul only by painting a knuckle.'

The old covers were so much better.
OK then. That was quite an interview. The guy kept insulting the journalist but couldn’t stop talking.
