Mortality rates:
Mifepristone: 0.65/100,000
Penicillin 2/100K
Viagra 4/100K
Pregnancy in the US: 22/100,000 (some states see rates >60/100K)
More people have died in ICE detention centers already in 2026 than will die from mifepristone all year. These politicians are extremely dangerous to women.

ICL folks, CFP for "The Afterlife of Atrocity Tribunals" conference to be held in Sydney in November 2026. Details here:
The sheer number of videos of the shooting is horrific, but in the vein of what @prisonculture.bsky.social has been saying, it proves how many people cared enough to show up where ICE was and record them. It wasn't just one or two legal observers, and when Good was shot, they didn't abandon her.
A beautiful reflection on public bioethics cases and private life/death/grief from @ethicselizabeth.bsky.social.
Tennessee is planning to execute my friend Red this week. The circumstances, like nearly all executions in the US, are outrageous. On what view of justice is this permissible? ballsandstrikes.org/law-politics...

My essay with @sefyfe.bsky.social revisiting off label Covid-19 vaccines for kids in the current context is officially in this week’s issue of @jamapediatrics.com
Today in @theconversation.com with @sefyfe.bsky.social & just in time to help understand what is up with Covid-19 vaccine access this year as we head into the holiday season and folks want get vaccinated + have some accurate vax info to share with friends & family around the Thanksgiving table.
In @theconversation.com today with @ethicselizabeth.bsky.social on how access to the COVID-19 vaxx works now: Off-label use of COVID-19 vaccines was once discouraged but has become common amid new guidelines theconversation.com/off-label-us...
Worth it I suspect. Peter can barely finish the episode 😆
Anticipating changes to the 25/26 Covid-19 vaccine regulations @sefyfe.bsky.social & I updated our previous analysis of off-label pediatric Covid-19 vaccination. It is out now in @jamapediatrics.com & accessible here.
Many things happened since we submitted this! I'll touch on a few of them 🧵
In JAMA Pediatrics with @ethicselizabeth.bsky.social on how to think about off-label vaxx for kids in these confusing times
Universities are moving rapidly to comply with laws that don't exist.
Excellent explainer on the role of intent in assessing genocide claims:
Not nearly enough people are saying “The Palestinians were right all along. We are so sorry.”
Concern over low birth rates was what the theocracy in Margaret Atwood’s Handmaid’s Tale used to come to power.
A brief commentary by @sefyfe.bsky.social & me in AJOB discusses why invoking the specter of regret in medical decision making, even about about potentially "transformative experiences," risks undermining patient autonomy.

brave to admit three paragraphs in that the entire thesis of your article is wrong
As with attempts to limit access to reproductive choices (see below paper in Hypatia with @ethicselizabeth.bsky.social), these legislators care a lot about imposing gender norms, and they use anticipatory regret (based on their OWN values) to justify the impositions.
Out just in time to preempt Thomas’s opinion in Skrmetti, in which he disagrees with everything I say. On why gender affirming care is necessary for kids (and adults), and what recent limitations suggest about the legislators seeking them: ir.law.utk.edu/rgsj/vol14/i...
Out now open access in Hypatia with @sefyfe.bsky.social on why regret is not the problem for informed consent regarding reproductive choices - even potentially “transformative” ones - that some like to argue it is.

Apparently this quote from RFK jr. was about kids with autism, but this is also true of kids who die from vaccine-preventable illnesses.
Incredible news on TDOV.
The 9th Circuit has denied the government’s request to enforce its transgender military ban.

Supporting bathroom, sports and healthcare bans for trans people means signing on to a moral panic about problems that DON'T EXIST.
When people say Democrats should "moderate" on these issues, they are suggesting that we legislate a group out of public life based on lies.
Grateful for colleagues who will not surrender.
