while a lot of liminal space horror is very skin-deep, the bulk of it almost seems to lean into this idea. but not quite. i think a lot of devs have accidentally tapped into the realization that reverence of the past via familiar spaces is inherently disquieting, but they do not interrogate why...

there's an aspect of liminal space horror that really intrigues me. nostalgia is a tool of fascism, and it is also deeply woven into the fiber of liminality. horror is the perfect medium to explore this relationship. it provides a vehicle for examining how our memories pervert the past...
