Exciting news for 'Gnomes'! This was such a pleasure to script consult on for Screen Invaders/2Jons & can't wait to see those scripts brought to life by Matthias Hoene, Joel Kohn & Sian Davies.

Half my job at the video store was repairing INCREDIBLY scratched dvds hired out by fully grown adults.

Like competing Cinderella, Snow White and Pinocchio projects beforeโ€ฆ there are two โ€œyoung Stalinโ€ projects at Cannes this year โ€” he obviously just entered the public domain.

His first English language* film! (*also in Norweigan and Romanian). It was quite like Anatomy of a Fall in tone and I think it will do well, particularly with that casting.

Iโ€™ve just finished another of her short stories collections โ€” quite unsettling!

Itโ€™s a particularly good (though quite grim) episode! Iโ€™ll be writing to my MP because of it.

The past 4 months I've been producing a short: an ambitious period film that transforms into a cosmic horror, about the things we put our faith into. I'm excited to see Director Luke David Sims' vision come to life & we've launched a crowdfunder. #filmskyuk #scriptskyuk greenlit.com/project/each...

KoH Directorโ€™s Cut is one of my favourites! Napoleon isnโ€™t anywhere near that lush and creative but has some nice added depth and integrity in longer form that for me make it one of his best late works (though still a tad plodding).

Also this longer version of Napoleon makes me wonder what else the longer Gladiator II (also David Scarpa) contains!

1 year ago 1 0 1 0

Haha yeah I totally missed that in the theatrical but laughed when I saw it this time around. Itโ€™s a canonical Aussie bit that we very much appreciate ๐Ÿ˜‚

I donโ€™t think I was quite convinced that was what they were doing before I saw the longer cut ๐Ÿ˜… Phoenixโ€™s buffoonery does get a little lost in the longer running time.

I think this is spot on, thereโ€™s a real impatience for traditional style politics driven by everything being turned into a graphic or meme. It makes politics into a hamster wheel where there has to be a constant roll out of updates for consumption.

A poster for Ridley Scott's Napoleon "The Director's Cut". It shows a picture of Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon, dressed in his customary bicorn hat, jacket unbuttoned and jauntily slouched over a chair, a scowl on his face.

Now Watching: Napoleon: Apple Cut
Unsurprisingly, restoring a large number of the interpersonal scenes between Napoleon & Josephine render this a much more coherent and compelling film. The hinted at themes (impotence) of the theatrical cut become text here and it's so much more interesting for it.

Looking for a handy list of UK Writers on Bluesky? As they used say on Blue Peter "Here's one I made earlier".
