Stephen Lewis eulogizing Jack Layton in 2011:
"Inevitably, we fastened on those last memorable lines about 'hope, optimism and love', but the letter was at its heart a manifesto for social democracy"

A longitudinal cohort study of U.S. adolescents 12-15 found that kids who spent more than 3 hours per day on social media faced double the risk of experiencing poor mental health outcomes, including symptoms of depression and anxiety.

There absolutely is proof. I'll provide some it:
7 in 10 children have been exposed to misogynistic or hateful material, dangerous online challenges, violent fight videos, and content promoting disordered eating, suicide. They also report grooming.

You’re asking why people do things that aren’t healthy for them? Really?
Why not make cigarettes legally available to children and just make parents ensure they dont smoke? This is a bad take. Smartphones and social media are mulching the brains o fan entire generation. Its a public health issue, not a "parental responsibility" issue.
Blue Labour is basically a scam designed to give people a safe space to hide from how much the world has changed.
Thai is how you kill a health service. Create fiefdoms. Set them against each other for finite resources. Enable blame shifting.
The game was set much earlier in the timeline post outbreak, so it makes more sense in the source material. The issue with the show is they updated it to our timeline but left outbreak day steady so more time has passed.

Chris, I’m mailing you some iron ore. Let’s find out!
OrangeBubble: an online resistance t-shirt store! It’s what the Federal NDP did when they stopped pretending to be a serious political party. #cdnpoli
Resist Trump. Buy our t shirt?
One of the big problems that modern democracies face is bad faith actors / grifters like Yanis playing to the peanut gallery.
Let’s make this simple. She was found guilty after a multi-year investigation and was punished in line with a law she voted in favor of.
Don’t threaten me with a good time.
Campaigning... in her own seat?
Liberals door knocking in Glenorchy (!) today. Labor still does not have a candidate in Clark. #politas
In the absence of an NDP that is transformative I’m supporting the Liberals. Given the US threat, it’s more important to me to have a coherent national response put by a party that can actually win an election, than to have a marginally better platform put by a party that is bad at politics.
This guy would have slapped as NDP leader.
The Fed NDP is a fundraising vehicle, not a serious political party.
Don’t really know why there’s this culture of letting legislative branch leaders sit in leadership for so long.
Once again - Americans could learn so much from parliamentary systems.
Give it a few years and the Trudeau government will be remembered with nostalgia by a lot of the same people that have spent 10 years trying to defeat it.
In this moment Doug Ford is doing what most political leaders have neither the courage or the imagination to do. He’s still bad overall, but right now I’m glad he’s there.
ELBOWS UP, CANADA!
The Australian election will be fought on a security frame. Ballot box question -which leader will make people feel safe in a scary world? The ALP has been trying to shape the election to be fought on Medicare. But with everything happening in the world in the last few days, that’s unlikely. #auspol
The hero we need. Not the one we deserve.
