all 3 with very limited exceptions (mostly on the work side tbh)
if it gets used as a uniform in its base media or resembles real world uniforms I tend to opt out

I have complicated definitions and reasons/exceptions but the short version is:
1. no uniforms
2. no recreations of live action costumes
3. nothing from media that I feel morally gross about
this list is basically unchanged from when I made it 15 years ago

being between projects is driving me crazy, I feel like I have ants under my skin but I think I have a game plan now? I have too many ideas
but excited to go back to something that doesn't break one of my cosplay ~rules~, I feel reaffirmed in my preferences and why I made the rules to begin with.

i believe it, but still more of a build than im prepared for.
i've avoided cosplaying league when my friends started in 2013, I'm probably not about to start now unless I really fall in love with a design (which seems...unlikely)

the thought of making either a monhun or 2XKO build in so short a time period makes me break out in a nervous sweat. I'm VERY excited for your caitlyn tho 👀

it's now 7 weeks until Combo Breaker and if you want me to wear/make something for shenanigans u better tell me.
otherwise i will make something extremely dumb and silly since I'm taking a break from competing and ~serious builds~ for a bit

her using the phrase 'waste of time' echoes broader usage by people who don't get involved in contests at all and my point is that using it as a blanket opinion is inherently limiting and stops people from trying it all the time. and that sucks

to acknowledge that and come away with the take away that contests as a whole are a waste of time and 'not part of the community' is inherently flawed, disrespectful and says a lot more about her.
but thats why i think she isnt a serious person and that i take her views with a big chunk of salt.

oh i agree, shes definitely telling the truth for herself. but its still bad general advice. making tiktoks may help you or not depending on many other factors, social media is fickle and also how monetizable it even is depends. and if part of what u were hired to do involves contests? thats work

also 'waste of time' is such a funny thing to complain about bc its so subjective. like time is a resource and how 'valuable' it is fucking depends lol.
and dont try and say its about win/lose. I've won and had a horrible time and lost and had a good one.

anyway: the most frustrating contests I have ever participated in have all been run and/or judged by people who hearts weren't in it and were doing it for other reasons.
its a thankless job that involves a ton of work on all ends (like most event work) and you can tell when it lacks passion

its not news that desire for fame rots your brain lol. im not taking anything seriously from someone with bizarre motivations and a history of saying absurd shit for attention.
happy that all the discourse ive seen has talked about how valuable and important contests are

cutting the dyed velvet. i have a tiny swatch of the original color on top

test with sleeve pinned on mannequin. i kept the velvet layer in pieces while adding the trim but did the lining to test fit

decided the trim annoyed me so added black seed beads on top to add dimension. it helped a little. not pictured: me fighting making the piping and installing it while sewing layers together. ugh ugh ugh

final tey on with test makeup and wig. happy with the proportions on me despite how much is "inaccurate" since i look nothing like kate beckinsale and have made changes accordingly

the jacket was not! fun! spent the whole week working on it and feeling blegh about it but somehow done it works i guess
also fought the wig but yay final try on and done!

i did also get a 'normal' version if the deck with a more standard tuckbox (though its also very nice!) and the cards have no hidden map or gilding. also got a real shotglass and flask.

yes I've still been sewing 🫠
finished embroidery, made the shirt, spats, belt and necklace.
also now finished jacket mockups, dyed final fabric and will hopefully finish the jacket and wig before the weekend. wish me luck lmao

starting the corset front panel the buckles are real but the belts are a single strip, not functional. the rivets are holding all the layers in place

wearing the corset with a placeholder shirt of a similar style

showing off the hidden zipper panel. its on a T to the back panel and the snaps help hide it in shape. it means my lacing can be a lot shorter and i have a much easier time putting it on and off

been chipping away at embroidery every day 🫠.
but also am now to a wearable state on my corset. scary as fuck doing it out of lambskin but backed it with silk organza and coutil for strength.
doing the rivets and the hidden zipper took so much work and engineering to ensure no snagging
