For better or worse, Bean is now speedrunning bathtime & getting ready for bed in order to maximize "watch Mommy play Dragonage" time, to the extent that I turned the corner and Bean has already pulled up a chair and is waiting for me 🤦‍♀️

This has partly backfired. They're highly invested in what's going on, which means I now can't play without them watching 🤣

Which is adorable, but I've reached D'Meta's Crossing and they keep asking why they can't watch it, what do I mean by scary, well can they just see the area-- 😅

A. The answer is *always* "Yes."
B. When it rains, more often than not it's a relief from the heat and mosquitos
C. Whether or not it's raining, everything is always soaked through anyway

Being a Floridian doesn't mean I am unbothered by Montreal's Fake Spring rain

It simply means I am wholly unprepared to concern myself with whether or not it's even going to rain

The late Tony Benn set out five questions about power.

In his final speech to the House of Commons he said that on meeting any powerful person, one should always ask:

What power have you got?

Where did you get it from?

In whose interests do you exercise it?

To whom are you accountable?

And how can we get rid of you?

Got an email from Adobe saying that they were nearly doubling the cost of my creative cloud subscriptions and adding a bunch of Gen AI dogshit I didn't ask for!

If you don't want to get charged you have to log in and downgrade to a "standard" plan that's just the fuckin apps.

Oh my.

It's taken from the right side of an aircraft flying past Cape Canaveral just as the Artemis II mission was taking off.

57 of my fellow students were arrested, academically disciplined, and barred from campus 2 weeks before finals.

And then the visas of some of those students were quietly revoked.

And then the DEI office was killed.

And then we watched our mentors’ grants evaporate over “woke”.

As a lady of a certain age who thoroughly enjoyed enjoying HP with her children as they grew up:

Fuck this IP and JKR for the harm she’s done with the money and socio-political capital she’s found herself with, much on the backs of the oddballs and misfits who trusted her.

All the way to hell.

The financial problem with Sora was despite the massive interest, PR campaign, and downloads, only 1% of the userbase stuck around for more than a few days. A small, niche, devoted userbase does not a Trillion dollar company make. It was a toy, and not a very good one. Long live human creativity!

You have to cultivate your own opinions, I'm begging you! Intentionally pick something you would not usually prefer and see if you like it! Take a chance on someone's weird or unusual recommendation! Try a badly rated thing and see how it hits you! Your life can be so much richer than you expect!!!!

How AI assistance impacts the formation of coding skills Anthropic is an AI safety and research company that's working to build reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems.

Even if you're pro-AI, Anthropic themselves have said that using AI when learning means you don't develop skills

You need those skills later to debug the LLM's output or prompt it more effectively to fix something. These students are gonna struggle as soon as they have to do something harder.

Actual quote from recently, in a class test where AI wasn't allowed: "But how can I write code without AI?" 😐

Watching ChatGPT do your homework is *not* learning. A lot of students are vibe studying through their degrees and not gaining basically any knowledge of what they're doing

Folks, I'm probably gonna charge you so much more than $15,000 to fix what Claude fucks up. At your own risk.

AI is like early radioactive tech

- Wonderfully effective for some good tasks
- Horrifyingly effective for some evil tasks
- Bad and actively harmful for lot of mundane tasks that it is being rapidly deployed into

Just because it glows doesn't mean you should use it for skincare

Mistakes are fucking GREAT, actually!

A: They are literally the process by which we learn, grow, invent.
B: Do yourself a favor and look up how many revolutionary things were "discovered" because of a mistake.
