Still full of dread about what this company is actually planning. Best case scenario is that it's being massively oversold and inflated. So many risky and problematic arguments being made to create permission space for geoengineering deployment at the moment

I think there's an untold story here that an intrepid journalist could investigate: When a big tech company builds a data center with on-site natural gas turbines, who pays for the pipelines the utility lays or expands to bring gas to the turbines? My guess: All gas ratepayers, not the tech company.
And here I was thinking that astrophages were a non-terrible metaphor for climate change, and the book/movie could be read/watched as an inverse "Don't Look Up".
Whoops
Ah yes, because the scientists were the ones doing the politicizing. Clearly.
Fantastic commentary on manufacturing the need for more evidence to develop policies. www.thelancet.com/action/showP... 🛟
Anyway I wondered—couldn't manufacturers install sensors on the side of a car that would emit a loud noise or even prevent someone from opening a door if a rider was approaching? A little light on the mirror isn't enough. Drivers aren't thinking and need more help to avoid killing someone (like me).
The best time to have invested in renewables, walkable cities and transit to avoid the oil crisis shock was twenty years ago.
The second best time is today.

”but we have PPAs for renewables” babe I don’t believe you and also even if you do, 1) who bought the liability for the emissions you’re “offsetting”? And 2) I know a whole lot of users who would like to use those still-too-scarce renewable resources for sth better
I have a lot to say about all of this but let’s just stick to the fact that this isn’t true: “These plants will not affect the price of electricity for Ohio residents because the facilities are not connected to the grid…”
Hi they’re buying out scarce equipment, creating massive inflation, tysm
A plan to install 10,000 new induction stoves in New York City could bring cleaner indoor air to residents and ease stress on the electric grid. @jjbuonocore.bsky.social discusses with @insideclimatenews.org: insideclimatenews.org/news/1603202...
This seems like a bad idea!!
For the low price of $1B in taxpayer money, we get higher electricity prices, more climate change, more air pollution, and greater dependence on fossil fuels. All this because the President didn’t like the view from his golf course (and to benefit donors).

We did it!!
They are not going to be fooled into forgetting about those interests by the right combination of words! There is no magical messaging or phrasing, no "framing," that is going to distract them from their material interests! They are not open to persuasion on this matter!
and to clarify, when I say "check for" I mean both prospectively before implementation "will this break anything?", and also retrospective evaluation after implementation to see "did we break anything?"
What processes are out there to check for side effects and unintended consequences for human health, ecosystems, society, etc? Thinking about everything from rainfall patterns to changes in ground level air pollution to astronomy...
Bloomberg terminal showing the spike in natural gas prices
JFC. European gas prices just surged 50%.
Has it occurred to anybody that Trumps Iranian war ploy greatly benefits his friends in the domestic US oil and gas production industry? Fracked oil and gas requires high prices to be economic, and at current prices it's barely profitable, if that.
Those days when you and a couple of your favorite collaborators are just chatting and stumble on an idea so great you cancel all your meetings and hash something out on a white board for hours
300k customers (nearly a million people) have lost power in Massachusetts. Stay warm, folks.
Picture of a map of New England from the grid operator ISO NE showing the entire region in green, meaning that electricity prices are between $65 and $70
Is it something else? Screenshot from www.iso-ne.com
#energysky Actual real good faith question here. Why are electricity prices on ISONE during this blizzard so much cheaper than the one a few weeks ago? Is the fact that it's warmer than last time making gas demand, and therefore prices cheaper, thus lowering electricity prices? Is it NECEC?
