I've decided short-sightedness is the root of many of our environmental, industrial, etc. etc. problems. We jump at the next thing, exploit if fully, then when it's exhausted, try a new thing, exhaust it, etc., rather than thoughtfully plan ahead, with foresight and concern for the Whole.
