my angry post about this case this morning is now an angry article

Roy Anthony Scott was in a mental health crisis and called 911 asking for help

Cops came and killed him, & now the Court is casting doubt on whether the cops can be held accountable for his death

It’s Lesbian Visibility Week!

Here are some brilliant lesbian books with BIPOC MCs (I have to use “Sapphic” on TikTok because the algorithm doesn’t like the L-word).

In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.

People without energy limiting conditions can’t understand that just the “simple” act of being alive is exhausting. How do you explain to others that there are times where you barely have the energy to breath or open your eyes? It’s impossible.
I’m so sorry that you have to go through this. 💔💚

I would love to place a moratorium on arguments about whether or not events are "unprecedented." A thing does not have to be *unprecedented* for us to be off the map of our experience, or for solutions that were applied in a different era to be ill-suited (or worth considering).

We need to win big on May 7.

Thousands of Green candidates are standing across England and Wales.

This is a real chance to change politics - to give communities a stronger voice and challenge parties backed by big money.

The shooting episode of #ThePitt (season 1) is so well done. The frantic energy in the ER just oozes through the tv screen. And every action is choreographed perfectly.

Chicago Books to Women in Prison Chicago Books to Women in Prison is an all-volunteer organization that sends free books to women and trans people in prison nationwide.

YALL.

There is a charitable organization in Chicago that donates books to women’s prisons. My boyfriend introduced me to it!!!

Yall support!! This is AMAZING. Women’s prisons do NOT get anywhere near the donations men’s do. That’s why my own organization exists.

This reminds me of that time Starmer was hoodwinked into going to the meeting Mandelson set up with his former client Palantir & CEO Alex Karp & UK boss Louis Mosley while Starmer was on an official US tour & no one took any minutes & it didn't appear on his register of visits .

And suddenly Palantir had huge contracts dealing with every aspect of life in the UK even though the company hates democracy & loves helping evil governments bomb people . Starmer must find that staggering & unforgivable too .

Recently, I saw an article about myself and when I looked at the comments (big mistake, I know), I was stunned to see tons of comments from people saying not only that I use AI to write books, but also that I admitted it! This is blatantly untrue. Actually, I have said multiple times that I do NOT use AI both here and in official interviews, but maybe I've been too subtle? So I'm just going to be clear once and for all:
I DO NOT USE AI TO WRITE MY BOOKS. I WILL NEVER USE AI TO WRITE MY BOOKS.
I'm not sure how I could make it more clear? Do I need a larger font and neon colors? Maybe flashing words? Or is that too 1999? (I actually don't know how to do any of that in FB so this will have to do.)
I started writing when I was 9 years old (WAY before AI, before even laptops, back in the time of the abacus) and all I wanted was to someday have something I wrote published. I started self-publishing in 2013 because I just wanted to hold one of the books I'd written in my hands. I didn't want to be a professional author... I was already a physician and had no desire to leave. This has always been a --

and had no desire to leave. This has always been a labor of love for me, and the idea of farming it out in any way makes no sense to me. This is what I love doing! Would you get AI to do your hobbies for you? Maybe you could get AI to go on a cruise with your family? Maybe AI could eat that chocolate cake for you?
Even though I'm more aware of it when it's happening to me, I know so many authors have been plagued by AI accusations recently. Both traditional and indie authors have faced it, but it's far worse for indie authors. Traditional authors have all the power of publishing houses between them, but one major thing that indie authors have going for them is that they can write and publish quickly. They have been doing this well before AI existed. (I am fiercely protective of indie authors because that's how I got my start.)
Now it seems like practically everything is "evidence" of AI. Writing more than 350 pages per year? Clearly AI, even though authors like Danielle Steel, Nora Roberts, and Stephen King have been doing it for their entire careers. An em dash? That's clearly AI, even though most authors are obsessed with them *raises hand*. A typo? Clearly AI, although I can't think of anything more human than making a stupid--

*raises hand*. A typo? Clearly AI, although I can't think of anything more human than making a stupid typo. That's like noticing someone is bleeding and saying it's proof they're a robot.
I've heard authors say they need to livestream themselves writing their books just to prove they did it.
I find this state of things really sad. Being an author is hard in so many ways. You have to put yourself out there and leave yourself vulnerable to criticism about your deepest thoughts. And now, on top of that, people claim that the work isn't really yours because it's "impossible" to write more than one book per year.
Look, there are a lot of things I can't do. I can't run more than a mile. I can't play an instrument. I can't speak more than one language. I can't throw a ball in a way that doesn't make observers snicker. I can't understand how a tomato could possibly be a fruit. But I *am* able to write several books per year, and so can many other people. Let us have this.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Someone sent me this post this morning and I thought I'd bring it here so we're not driving more traffic to fb.

But Freida McFadden came out to defend herself against her use of AI but also defended prolific (nonAI using) indie authors.

Anxiously waiting for any kind of donations to come so we can get food or medicine or do literally anything.

SSDI isn't supporting us & without community support we are slowly perishing. Struggling with malnutrition when I can't get regular food or meds that allow me to eat is destroying me.

If you get mad at THE PITT for not doing what you wanted THE PITT to do, you should try writing your own shit. I mean it! That's an impulse you can put to use instead of just being an entitled fan acting like art exists to meet your desires.

“I want to be like the other children” – Adam dreams of having surgery Adam, a boy born with fused fingers, dreams of getting the surgery that could change everything, but that’s hard when growing up in Gaza

What's happening in Gaza is stealing the futures of its children. For Adam, that's not only about education, but also his physical abilities. A problem that would be easy to solve in the UK or US seems intractable - due to a conflict he has nothing to do with. northwestbylines.co.uk/news/health/...

It’s fucking bizarre how people are acting like something from 2022 is something they can’t live without.

Like dudes, the emotional dependence on a sycophantic machine regurgitating nonsense to encourage you to stop engaging in critical thought and trust the slop is truly depressing to witness.

new day of asking. if we can even make it to the first milestone on the GoFundMe, then it's already a success in my mind. it helps me to have something to point to when talking to lawyers.

I'll be able to tell them, "I'm serious about this. I won't dip when things get hard."
