That bends the central dogma a little bit - especially the protein template.

Very cool!
Cover image of the Journal of Cell Science, Volume 139, issue 6. Image shows a red macrophage on top of a grid of blue dots. Inside of the macrophage are green and yellow dots.
My labs most recent publication made the journal cover! The image shows a macrophage trying to eat blue dots that mimic dying cells. Red is the macrophage membrane, orange and green are two proteins involved in removing dead cells.

I'm 100% in agreement.
Polyphore opening viewed from the bottom of the fungus. Looks like honey bee comb. 40x magnification.
Woody cap layer and polyphore layers in a single cross section.
Polyphores in a thin section at 100x magnification. Small spores are visible in each channel.
Some more photos showing the woody cap and polyphore layers, the bottom view of the polyphore channels, plus a properly prepared slide showing the polyphores in a thin section.
Two polyphore fungi on a cutting mat
A small cube of polyphore and a razer blade on a cutting mat
100x magnification of the polyphore on the fungus. The look like a series of small tubes.
40x magnification view of the polyphores, which are long tubes extending from the bottom of the fungus into its core
Cody found some polyphores in the forested part of of our property, so we brought them in to look at them under the microscope. Pretty cool fungi - the bottom is a layer of channels that they release spores through, with a tough woody cap on top for protection.
While the article is interesting, for some reason, you've chosen to lie about it's content. No claims of collapsing conventional agriculture, no claims that indigenous farming can/should replace it. Strange that you have to lie to make your "point". The study: www.frontiersin.org/journals/sus...
Thanks Val!
Our latest paper, with lots of fancy microscopy!
Im not sure that having a better hallucination engine makes for better photos.
4 days - just enough time for the brine to penatrate to the centre.
Brine being poured over a rectangular block of feta cheese
Two rectangular cheese molds, stacked kn each other, on a white draining mat.
Square cubes of cheese curd in a post with a black plastic spoon.
Made some feta today!
Yep! If it wasn't for their very unique call I don't think we'd even have known they were there.
A very hazy photo of two sandhill cranes standing in a field with the first sprouts of winter wheat appearing.
So the picture is π©, but we had a couple of sandhill cranes come through today. I used to see them all the time back home, but this is my first time seeing them in Ontario!

The microimm booth
Are you in first or second or second year of your undergraduate journey @westernu.ca ? If so, come by the Microbiology and Immunology booth in the Mustang Lounge to learn more about our program!
If you have a gas stove you can char them over a burner, which can help bring out some flavor and which makes for a great sause.
Seed starters underneath a grow light. Everything is cast in pink light.
There may still be snow on the ground, but it's tike to get the leeks and peppers started!
For two glorious hours I thought today was Friday.
This is a very cool study- a must-read if you're into cell migration, chemotaxis, or plain-ol' cool science π
We make a pizza that is essentially Potatoes au Gratin on a chewy pizza crust. Its amazing.
Pioreactor - a pocket size bioreactor powered by a raspberry pi.
I'm not sure what you're planning with them, but using them to watch phage crash a population is pretty cool. Much more interesting than a plaque assay - plus you get dynamics out of it!
That was also a big surprise for me as well. Although my all time "favorite" is how often the conversation goes:
Me: "I'd like to buy your thing, how much is it?"
Company: "We can't tell you"
Pioreactors are wonderful. I incorporated them into a few of my undergrad labs with great success. The company is also super responsive and helpful if you run into problems.
A country road, lined with leaflets trees and snow covered shoulders. A lead grey sky is overhead.
Selfie of a very winded old dude with a grey beard, in a hoodie, wearing a bike helmet, trying not to fall. A gravel road, lined with snow and pines, in the background.
First ride of 2026. Slightly chilly!
Returned to work this morning after a long weekend. First email in my inbox was an acceptance letter for a paper! Not a bad way to start off the week. Its under an embargo, so I can't say more, but we're really excited about this one!
Oh I know, this is our 8th year raising these buggers. Our buck got through the electric fence back in September, so we're a few months early on when we'd prefer them to be born.
Two newborn goats in a jacuzzi-style bathtub, standing on yellow and blue towels
#Goat update. It was too cold last night, so they spent the night in our bathtub.
A large mommy goat, grey-brown in colour, with two babies. One is brown with gray ears. The other is a brownish-grey with white moon spots
Two baby goats in a blue hut with light from a heat lamp coming from above
Wasn't expecting to come across 2 new #goats when I went out to do chores tonight. Looks like someone was having sex through the electric fence.
Happy Valentines Day, Gracie, I guess....
