This squid was cut from Gen 2. Game Freak later tried to bring in a squid Mon for Gen 3 that was also cut. Eventually they did add in Inkay and Malamar in Gen 6. #Pokemon #DigitalArt #IbisPaintX #BetaMon

Gen 2 had a lot of cut birds. This little quail being one of them. It’s currently unknown if it evolved into the clef shaped bird that was found in the same batch of Gen 2 sprites. #Pokemon #BetaMon #IbisPaintX #DigitalArt

Torterra always had the world turtle concept for its design, but the beta design was still a bit different than the final. Personally, I prefer the final design over this. #Pokemon #BetaMon #IbisPaintX #DigitalArt

Back in 1993, Ken Sugimori made up some New Year’s cards featuring really early drawings of a couple Gen 1 Pokemon. One of which being Kangaskhan sporting a very vivid color scheme. #Pokemon #BetaMon #DigitalArt #IbisPaintX

One of the many cut Gen 2 Pokemon was this Quetzalcoatl snake fella. There’s a chance that its concept was eventually reworked into Rayquaza. #Pokemon #BetaMon #DigitalArt #IbisPaintX

While Blastoise had a pre evolution, Wartortle had a different evolution. It actually kept the fluffy tail and ears from Wartortle. #Pokemon #BetaMon #IbisPaintX #DigitalArt

Originally, Blastoise was separate from squirtle and wartortle. It even had its own pre evolution. Ultimately, the lines were combined as Game Freak saw the two separate turtle lines as redundant. #Pokemon #BetaMon #IbisPaintX #DigitalArt

Crocky here was one of the few Gen 1 beta mons that was officially revealed. It was a kooky little lizard that had the potential to be a gen 1 dragon. In the end, the Dratini line were the only dragon types introduced in gen 1. #Pokemon #BetaMon #DigitalArt #IbisPaintX

When Pichu was made, pikachu became a 3 stage line. Originally though in gen 1, Raichu was supposed evolve into Gorochu. The only thing we have left of Gorochu’s existence is its back sprite. To this day, we don’t know its full design. #Pokemon #BetaMon #IbisPaintX #DigitalArt

Porygon2 originally leaned more into the more rounded design. It was eventually changed to resemble Porygon a lot more. Weirdly the old design closely resembled the Mr. Donut mascot, Pon de Lion even though Pon came out after. #Pokemon #BetaMon #DigitalArt #IbisPaintX

This guy is a combo of plesiosaur, xylophone, and maybe ocarina. It does look a little similar to a beta version of dunsparce, but without a proper color palette, it is unknown if they were ever related. #Pokemon #BetaMon #IbisPaintX #DigitalArt
