What a US$ 345 million judgment means for Greenpeace - Greenpeace International A US court has just sided with fossil fuel pipeline giant Energy Transfer and ordered Greenpeace International and Greenpeace entities in the US to pay US$ 345 million.

So let’s be clear: this type of corporate bullying is designed to rob us of our rights and freedoms.

But we will not be silenced.

State capacities for decarbonization: from investable transitions to green transformations Researchers increasingly invoke the concept of ‘state capacity’ to analyze how and when states pursue decarbonization and renewable energy policies. Drawing on a review of recent climate governance...

The literature on state capacity for decarbonization has grown so much since I started my PhD back in 2020, so this review has been rewritten so many times (and I had to cut a lot in this final iteration). Hope I’ve done it justice. Available open access here 🔓 www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

The UK student loan system — and its danger for Labour
Growing anger among millions of graduates who face decades of debt is causing unease in Westminster

The UK student loan system — and its danger for Labour Growing anger among millions of graduates who face decades of debt is causing unease in Westminster

“I graduated with £42,000 of debt and even though I’m paying it off, it’s now £72,000.”

It's truly an abomination: On a normal job you keep paying forever. 40 years!

“Why would I trust a government that mis-sold me a loan when I was a child?” is a very good question.

Spain's constitution promises democracy at work. Last year, @yolandadiaz.bsky.social convened an expert group to study how to make good on that promise.

Lead by @isabelleferreras.bsky.social, we have delivered what is, we think, the highest-level 400-page report on economic democracy out there. 1/2

Wow... Writing this paper was a bit like watching a soap opera unfold. But it's out now in @bjpir.bsky.social

The big story is still: The ECB marched forward, with clear democratic authorisation, but not the Fed. Green central banking is much more democratic than people think.

Failure-proof or failure-prone? The paradoxes of global biodiversity institutions | Review of International Studies | Cambridge Core Failure-proof or failure-prone? The paradoxes of global biodiversity institutions

Why do global environmental institutions multiply and persist even when they seem unable to address biodiversity loss and environmental governance failures effectively?

Our new OA article with @jacquelinebest.bsky.social in @risjnl.bsky.social tries to answer this question. 1/7

US jury finds French bank BNP Paribas complicit in Sudan atrocities The French banking giant said the ruling by a jury in New York was 'clearly wrong' and that it plans to appeal.

Looking for readings — what scholarship historicizes and theorizes financiers’ legal responsibility for financing harm, how have conceptions of their responsibility changed over time, and how are these perhaps very different in different countries?
