"For autistic women, traits can be dismissed as manipulation or attention-seeking. For people of color? Those same traits can be perceived as threatening." @kalaomeiza.bsky.social on why "It's so important to learn more about diverse autistic experiences."

For screen readers to recognize headings, heading text can't just be body text or normal text that's been made to look bigger and bolder. It must be formatted as a heading. In Microsoft Word and Google Docs, this can be done in the styles box. In HTML, use the tags h1 through h6.

Photo of page 28 from Alligator Pie by Dennis Lee. The white page features the poem titled, William Lyon Mackenzie King:

William Lyon Mackenzie King
Sat in the middle & played with string
And he loved his mother like anything—
William Lyon Mackenzie King

(Note: the any in anything on line 3 is italicised.)

There is a fine black line border around the page, with the number 28 in the left margin about 1.5 inches from the top. The title of the poem is in a light teal serif font. The poem is printed in black. Below it is an illustration of a teal heart. Love written in cursive on a ribbon-type banner across it under a small star shaped flower. There is a mandala-style pattern bordering the heart.

The book Alligator Pie features poems by Dennis Lee and pictures by Frank Newfeld. The book was originally published in 1974, but this edition was published in 2012.

Love Mr. Lee! Was reorganizing a bookshelf the other day & found my copy of Alligator Pie. Page 28:

The Carney government brings us destruction. A full-frontal assault on Indigenous peoples, the integrity of the tax collection system, foreign aid, and, apparently, the country's rail system, among many other things.

Who cares about the environment anymore? Who needs a public health agency? The Canadian space agency?

Canadian sovereignty will apparently be protected by destroying state capacity.

We’re Already at Risk of Ceding Our Humanity to AI Machines It’s 2019. I’m in a bar in Providence, Rhode Island, chatting with graduate students and researchers with PhDs. One of them, who holds a PhD in Latin American literature, observed approvin…

Today, tech billionaires who are ignorant, evil, or both are trying to change how we understand what it means to be human: what we are able to do with our minds, what we want to do, why we bother living at all. Don't let them monstrify you.

This is terrifying given how often AI gets health information absolutely wrong. (eg www.nytimes.com/2026/02/09/w...)

Petition e-7148 - Petitions

This petition asking that every federal party leader be required to hold top-secret security clearance only has 40k signatures, but I think it would have far more if more people knew it was a GFY directed squarely at Poilievre, who refuses to get clearance.

St Patrick’s Day is anti-colonial, anti-fascist, anti-empire, pro-immigrant. Have a good safe one.

When slowing down can save a life: Training LA law enforcement to understand autism LOS ANGELES — Kate Movius moved among a roomful of Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies, passing out a pop trivia quiz and paper prism glasses.

Family members who are concerned about an autistic person as a safety risk might want to call an ambulance rather than law enforcement, because even with "autism training," officers can misinterpret autistic behavior—with possibly awful consequences.

People putting you on lists called ‘alt text scolds’ when you just want to be able to read the text in screenshots.

I’m not scolding for fun, I can’t SEE it mf!

It staggers me how fast the vast majority of people - including medical professionals - have normalised infection with a virus that can cause cognitive dysfunction / anosmia. SARS-2 is definitively not 'just another respiratory virus', yet society is just shoehorning it in there.

Grammarly Is Facing a Class Action Lawsuit Over Its AI ‘Expert Review’ Feature The feature, which Grammarly shut down Wednesday, presented editing suggestions as if they came from established authors and academics—without their consent.

I'm suing Grammarly over its paid AI feature that presented editing suggestions as if they came from me - and many other writers and journalists - without consent.

State law requires consent before someone's name can be used for commercial purposes.

“This isn’t a complex, nuanced issue: Canadian MPs shouldn’t be meeting with people threatening Canada’s sovereignty, let alone adjudicated rapists or their apologists.”

Biased AI writing assistants shift users’ attitudes on societal issues Biased AI writing assistants shift people’s attitudes about societal issues; common interventions do not prevent this influence.

Ugh. Study shows use of AI can nudge our beliefs...

Are we moving toward a corporate controlled and (given who owns AI) an increasingly conservative hive mind?

The thing about AI is that it's not even efficient if you already have a functioning human brain and an iota of tech literacy. Of course you don't need a 5-step plan to talk to another person on the computer, wtf

I say that as an autistic person who scripts.

A REMINDER THAT AUTISTIC WOMEN ARE MORE LIKELY TO NOT RECEIVE A FORMAL DIAGNOSIS.

ARE MORE LIKELY TO NOT RECEIVE SUPPORT.

ARE MORE LIKE TO BE THE VICTIMS OF SEXUAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL VIOLENCE

Perry: This St. Patrick’s Day, don’t forget Irish music’s anti-fascist roots Dropkick Murphys, the iconic Irish American punk band, are headlining a free block party March 6 near where Alex Pretti was killed by immigration agents, contributing columnist David M. Perry writes.

NEW “We’re celebrating a tradition that is at its core about resisting occupation and maintaining community in the face of horrors. You can’t keep politics out of Irish music. No one should try, for two reasons. First, it’s ahistorical. Second, Minnesotans are ready for a big anti-fascist party.”

I’m seeing stuff from Al Jazeera that there’s a lot of US military base infrastructure being destroyed and potentially way more loss of military lives than the American regime is letting on.

If my government decides to join in I will be protesting as loudly as I can.

Canadians need to start speaking up to @pmcarney.bsky.social & the liberal party. We can respect someone and like that he can speak well and like him more than the alternative but Millennials & younger don’t want this! We are a parliament & the liberals are a minority government. Say no to this war.

Grammarly Is Offering ‘Expert’ AI Reviews From Your Favorite Authors—Dead or Alive The tool, offered by the recently-rebranded company Superhuman, gives feedback based on the work of famous dead and living writers—without their permission.

Once a simple proofreading tool, Grammarly is now bristling with AI features and a suite of "expert" agents based on the works of real authors. But the company doesn't ask permission and in some cases offers feedback from virtual versions of dead writers—including one historian who died in January.
