Tributes paid to former Airport CEO who passed away on New Year's Day David Laws is credited with bringing the Emirates' direct Dubai flight to the North East in his 37 years at Newcastle Airport

Saddened to learn Davie Laws has died. He was great fun as well as a brilliant chief exec and referee. He was a champion of the North East and his contribution to the region’s business community went well beyond the airport.

The unreliability of trains is one of the most infuriating aspects of trying to get around the Uk (or even a region) without a car. Two cancelled now on a rammed service two hours late!

Very sad to learn that this renowned music shop is closing in Newcastle. As a teenager I used to visit after school and listen to Bowie in one of their stereo listening booths and then browse through the records and sheet music and wish I could afford a posh guitar. It will be much missed. Neil x

Cole was phenomenal and very well supplied by Sellars, Beardsley, Lee et al. The promotion season and the first in the Premier are among my favourite memories watching the Toon.

Agreed but still just four points off the top 4. Infuriatingly inconsistent

Fair play to West Ham who did a real job on NUFC tonight and deserved to win overall. Newcastle a bit unfortunate to be one down at the break but second half was stop-start, disjointed and lacking composure. Strange league so far this season so who knows what happens next.

Regularly have this debate with fellow Newcastle fans. It’s as if football never existed pre-Premier League. The only way City will get relegated would be for matters off rather than on the pitch.

That makes me feel old. Was in the leazes end and, at the time, it was the greatest goal I had ever seen live!

Just 11 senior England caps were won by NUFC players during Mike Ashley 14 years as owner.
By contrast, five Three Lions caps have been won by the club’s players in the past four days alone.

Just landed here - it seems a a much calmer, nicer and more civilised place than the ego-centric and hateful platform that X has become.
