idk when the vn got fantranslated but after that discourse around higurashi shifted cuz the one who cared about the series understood it better and the secondaries couldn't care less (not a shade, after 10 years i'm still a secondary of Fsn and i don't have any interest to start the vn whatsoever)

i was 10 around that time and basically higurashi was perceived as the crazy girls anime with "gore" (like the fingernails scene) and it wasn't just people being secondaries, the violence in the anime was more prominent so it became it's heritage

yeah i agree, i didn't mean to defend higurashi, that shit is ass, but ryukishi got better as a writer so dont mind shf.

also, if you want to read something shoet and horror from ryukishi I suggest Higambana, it's a collection of short stories.

higurashi has great horror bits but the appeal from me comes from how everything could be avoided if people talked

that being said higurashi is pretty basic and the mystery sucks ass he improved a lot since then if you haven't read anything else from him
