If you or your students research any aspect of British, Irish or British colonial/imperial history (Roman empire to today) and need a tool that will never hallucinate sources, check out the BBIH. It develops research skills rather than repressing them. Instit. & indiv. subscriptions available.

It’s funny. So much of the discussion right now around CDoH relates, rightly, to the use of the tobacco playbook by other corporates.

But big taboo is literally still using this tactic to its own end. And not even making much of an effort to hide it…

Incredible reporting! @ashorguk.bsky.social

Tbf though, it’s often ‘the private train company will threaten to prosecute you for some triviality in order to extort a few hundred quid off you’

It was exactly what I needed - I have to say it feels rather an outdated regime ? 28 day isn’t very long at all for local people to make representations. It’s an even trickier timeframe for already very busy, eg, DPHs, to make representations relating to public health

Excellent, thanks so much!

Seems though that applications are made on this basis…for the sale of alcohol? The provision relating to clubs seems rather specific and presumably isn’t intended for this purpose ?

I feel like someone on here will almost certainly know the answer to this (@giffordhead.co.uk probably!)…is the sale of alcohol to be consumed on the premises actually set out in the Licensing Act 2003? I can’t actually see it set out…presumably being dense !

Really enjoyed reading this, thanks! - do you know of anything written about how this emerging field of the history of knowledge interacts with / relates to intellectual history ? May well be that the Daston article does but haven’t had a chance to read it yet

Wow. This is wild. If they applied these guidelines throughout the school they'd be banning half of the English curriculum.

Who's got a piece of Wes Streeting?

Who's got a piece of Wes Streeting?

Wes Streeting having the chutzpah to tell the story about the NHS.

He doesn't tell the bit about how much he's accepted from private healthcare and the risk our NHS is at under this Labour Government.

And most of all, lots of questions about his meetings with Palantir.

On some level I’m not sure my mind can quite grasp the raw stupidity of conducting a massive decapitation strike against Iran with no day two plan whatsoever, and then immediately finding yourself in a worldwide energy crisis with no off-ramp because you didn’t expect Iran to react

Will the British tax dodgers living in Dubai refuse the help of the RAF and Foreign Office when it’s time to quickly get them out?

Surely? Or maybe that isn’t quite what they had in mind…

This just shows a fundamental misunderstanding of how to do news. Data helps, but data doesn’t tell a reporter to spend a years-long investigation into child labor or an editor to place staff in a country on the brink of war. What exactly does Bezos think WaPo’s “journalistic mission” is?
