Just realized that with the release of Virtual Boy on Switch Online there now exists a niche that could be addressed if 8BitDo were willing to re-release one of their discontinued controllers…

I should mention, the C-Button issue is inherent to 8BitDo’s design of the 64’s “D-Mode” which maps the C-Buttons output as a right analog stick.

IMO fixing the broken “D-Mode” would require a lot more work than just adding support for “S-Mode” on the 3D.

Still doesn’t fix the issue where the 8BitDo 64 controller can’t detect pressing opposing C-Buttons on the 3D.

It WOULD work if the 3D let the 8BitDo 64 connect via “S-Mode” (NSO mode), but they now specifically have a message in the 3D OS saying they don’t support the 8BitDo 64’s S-Mode.

Diagram of control style 1.2 Solitaire from Goldeneye 007 for the N64. This control scheme has the control stick set for aiming and the movement/strafing keys mapped to both the c-buttons and the d-pad, meaning that you could hold the controller with either the right or left hand on the control stick.

Goldeneye control style 1.2: Solitaire. A bit awkward to change weapons/interact with doors if you hold it with your right hand on the stick but it’s very doable.

Try cleaning the battery with alcohol to remove the kid-proof bitter coating. That coating is known to interfere with the battery's function on certain devices (Airtags for example).

Check the main Steam setttings (menu bar at top of Steam), then controller, then disable/change the default “desktop layout”.

I don’t really blame Firefox as much as I blame Chrome/Chromium. As a result of its dominance, web devs prioritize bug fixes/updates for Chrome over FF, leading to many sites running like garbage or just straight up crashing on FF. It doesn’t help that FF is slow to add features (still no HDR video)

Fuck. I guess now is a good time to remind people that starting Jan 1st 2025 Border Patrol in NH plans to resume citizenship checkpoint stops in Woodstock, NH (yeah “resume” cuz they were operating checkpoints in 2017-18), so if you happen to travel there be prepared to present your docs.
