reading Great Expectations and I keep thinking to myself "this is so Dickensian!"

4 stars for Sirat, 4 stars for Chocolat, 3.5 stars for Billy Budd, 5 stars for Beau Travail.
Went to the movies tonight to see Sirat, and they only had French subtitles. Two-thirds of the theatre left. They missed out. #letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched

I did the poster for this and will also be introducing it tomorrow night.
3.5 stars for Dead Man's Wire, 2.5 stars for Spinal tap 2, 4.5 stars for A Room With A View, 4 stars for Wanda.
Nearly gave Dead Man's Wire 4 stars. Room With a View is great, Spinal Tap 2 has like 2 good jokes in it, and walks up to a really darkly funny ending and then avoids it at the last second. Weird. Wanda made me want to make a movie. #letterboxdFriday #lastfourwatched
4 stars for Women in Love, 3 stars for Josie and the Pussycats, 1.5 stars for "Wuthering Heights", 3.5 stars for Marty Supreme
Rewatched Russell's Women in Love for the first time since 2020. Incredible movie. Great adaptation. One adaptation that's not worth your time is "Wuthering Heights." Even if you consider it on its own, without thinking of the source material, it's incredibly bad. #letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched
really loving Bowie's version of Lust for Life from 1996 lately.
4 stars for Bob Trevino Likes It, 3.5 stars for Lady for A Day, 4 stars for Mr. Klein, 2.5 stars for Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
My girlfriend made me watch Seven Brides for Seven Brothers this week. It's her favourite movie of all time (she's made me watch it once before), and I just don't understand the appeal of it. The barn raising is fun, but that's it. Please someone explain it to me. #letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched
4 stars for The Secret Agent, 4.5 stars for All We Imagine As Light, 2 stars for Jurassic World Rebirth, 5 stars for Hard Truths.
Had one of the worst movie going experiences of my life tonight. Last week the theatre's projector was broken. This week at The Secret Agent, the image was all blown out and yellow. Red appeared an hour in, and then someone started vacuuming in the hall. #lastfourwatched #letterboxdfriday
it being an opera, and also not really having a story definitely makes it less appealing. But it’s also the most indulgent of their movies. Like if the dance sequence in the Red Shoes was two hours long.
4 stars for About Dry Grass, 3 stars for King of New York, 5 stars for Tales of Hoffman, 5 stars for Boogie Nights.
Watched Tales of Hoffman with some friends this week. It blew me away. There's obviously a reason it doesn't get talked about as the best Powell and Pressburger movie, but it's probably the most audacious and spectacular. #letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched

Let It Grow and My Brother Esau are true masterpieces.
A couple of weeks ago I saw someone on reddit say “Bob Weir doesn’t have a nye show scheduled, is he ok?“ It says some about him that taking a few months off touring was enough to make people worry about him. RIP.
4 stars for Love & Mercy, 4.5 stars for The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, 2 stars for Thief and the Cobbler, 3.5 stars for Dead Reckoning.
Incredibly weird, and slightly embarrassing #lastfourwatched for my first #letterboxdfriday of 2026. Love & Mercy is the first music bio pic I've ever enjoyed watching.
4.5 stars for Z, 4 stars for Presence, 5 stars for Nosferatu the Vampyre, 4 stars for Winchester '73.
4 very different movies this week. But each one was incredible in its own way. Very happy to finally knock Z, Presence, and Winchester '73 off my to-watch list.
Herzog's Nosferatu is on the cusp of surpassing Bram Stoker's Dracula as my favourite Vampire movie.

5 stars for DJ Ahmet, 3.5 stars for Drive Away Dolls, 3 stars for the Nutcracker Prince, 4.5 stars for Lawrence of Arabia.
298 for the year. It's going to be hard to watch 67 films in 20 days, but I will try. Also, Ethan Cohen's solo work is better than most people say, and DJ Ahmet is an incredible debut. #letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched

3.5 stars for Nouvelle Vague, 4 stars for The Beast, 5 stars and a heart for High and Low, 5 stars for Bugonia.
Forgot to do this last week. This week's been a good one for watching movies. Saw the 4K release of High and Low and I've been thinking about it ever since. It gets better with each viewing. #lastfourwatched #letterboxdfriday
We're screening Akira Kurosawa's classic suspense drama HIGH AND LOW (1963) this Friday, Nov. 21, at 7pm. Admission is free.

2 stars for Highest 2 Lowest, 4.5 stars for Herz's Beauty and the Beast, 2.5 stars for Godzilla for Megagarius, 4.5 stars for Amour.
On Monday, my weekly movie club watched Juraj Herz's Beauty and the Beast. It was incredibly unhinged. After, I watched Highest 2 Lowest and it was an incredible disappointment. #letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched
I'm not surprised that John Cale released a song with Charli XCX, but I'm a little surprised that it sounds more like Venus in Furs than POPtical Illusion.
it was well made though + the actress who played Joan Baez was great.
yes. I did not like it.
One of the things that annoys me the most about early 60s Dylan is how randy it is. But this Trough the Open Window does a good job at showing Dylan as someone searching for a sound, and the annoying juvenilia is offset by some truly beautiful performances.
just finished my first listen to Through the Open Window. Early 60s Dylan is the period of I am the least interested in, but I still found the release to be pretty great. This period is one of his most bootlegged periods, and still I found myself surprised by some of the performances and sounds.
I will also be on this panel tomorrow night at @strutsgallery.bsky.social
4 stars for Blue Moon, 3.5 stars for Stoker, 4 stars for Bay of Angels, 3 stars for the Bikeriders
Sometimes you don't even notice the weeks go by. #lastfourwatched #letterboxdfriday
Saw Jonathan Richman in Halifax on Sunday. It was one of the best concerts I've ever had. It was such a tight performance, but also felt like he was making up songs on the spot.
