She seems to have an invisible touch
She reaches in, and grabs right hold of your heart
She seems to have an invisible touch
It takes control and slowly tears you apart

A cheap sign attached to a pole next to a pedestrian crossing at Kelvin Grove Rd outside QUT that says "busy traffic area, please use caution at this crossing"
Your daily reminder that the Brisbane City Council wants you to be 100% car dependent, with all the negative health, economic, and social consequences that brings. And their car centric worldview would rather victim blame pedestrians for being killed here than drop the speed limit to 40kph.
An absolute drop in the ocean compared to road funding. The numbers for active transport are even more laughable. www.unsw.edu.au/newsroom/new...
He's been in parliament for three decades, and in that time his party have been in power for 9 years. He and all of his party fellows, and those across the aisle, need to own this one.
This is the bit that enrages me the most, the supposed party of the working class is setting that same class up for continued failure and servitude. Not just $ cost, but decreased quality of life as the working poor are forced to schlep longer distances for hours everyday to service the rich.
Australia could do this too. But it would require governments at all levels being willing to admit they have helped cause the problem in the first place.
It would require making tough choices, and communicating this clearly, and not giving in to short-term populism.
It requires leadership.
If you're serious, stop pouring money into bigger roads. Build public transport that actually works and streets people can safely walk and ride.
The Dutch didn't solve this by asking nicely after the 1970s oil crisis, they changed the system. Laws, infrastructure and culture all radically changed.
And despite all of the available evidence on how to design thriving modern cities, we've somehow also ended up subsidising the rise of American wankpanzers on our city streets.
Bigger, heavier, more dangerous, more fuel-hungry, perfect for hauling one bloke and his fragile ego.
We don't have "car culture" by accident.
We have it because Labor, and the Libs and Nats spent decades building cities where the car is the encouraged option.
Telling people to drive less while funding suburban sprawl and multilane roads is like telling people to eat less while subsidising KFC.
Albanese telling people to reconsider driving is incredible optics.
Mate, you built a country where driving is mandatory. A country where cyclists, pedestrians, and anyone not using a car is treated as a second-class citizen.
Car-dependence is baked into every major policy you have architected.
New research: Misleading political ads flooded social media during Australiaโs 2025 federal election. Using 22,000+ ads collected directly from votersโ phones, researchers captured what Australians actually saw online beyond platform ad libraries apo.org.au/node/332660

I could not be more stoked to announce CONTINUE, a defiant, new games magazine that aims to celebrate and interrogate the culture, creativity and community of videogames. The Kickstarter is now live below. www.kickstarter.com/projects/con...
What a fucking crock.
Two mid-level officials found to be corrupt by the NACC, but the big guns get off scot-free forever.

I know it's technically not one word, but let me have a go at a word association anyway:

OMG, Channel 9's are making the Winter Olympics unwatchable. They have played the same 4 ads on repeat around 100+ times in the last hour. As a result I am determined to never shop at a particular chemist, nor purchase insurance from a particular provider that has a fascination with lighthouses
The duality of speed skating and track cycling at the Olympics is well known, but what if we closed the gap further and had the short track speed skaters follow a souped-up Zamboni like the derny in a Kierin race? @kathangus.bsky.social reckons we could call it the 'Keirink' ๐ฅ๐ฒ
The Internet didn't miss though. I absolutely love it when everyone understands the assignment
Really enjoying watching the Winter Olympics, but damn the Aussie-centric parochial production of Channel 9 is really trying its hardest to ruin it. Every Aussie athlete is seemingly getting a full over-produced biopic, and so much air time is wasted on commentators, just let us watch the action!
"Social cohesion is a scam, a strategy employed by the powerful to delegitimise and suppress the voices of the less powerful... If you are othered by powerful groups, you become the victim of cohesion, not the beneficiary; what you get from social cohesion is a punch from an armed official."
The beatings will continue until morale improves
NSW Police used pepper spray, helicopters, horses and blockades as part of a new program designed to bring the community together.

@australianlabor.bsky.social owns what happened last night. A government that hosts leaders accused of war crimes and then deploys police violence against peaceful protesters cannot hide behind press releases. If Albo & Minns want to govern a democracy, they must respect dissent, not criminalise it.
Watching the footage emerging of the police brutality from Sydney last night is truly sickening. People have a right to peacefully protest. And shame on the media for framing this as 'protesters clashed with police' when from the footage it was clear that 'peaceful protesters were bashed by police'
