I think we only got George in because we thought McNeil would be leaving. Unless McNeil does leave in the summer, I doubt he’ll join permanently.

It’s only the 2nd time in the last 10 years we’ve lost to them at home, Anfield is usually a write off but we’ve been OK at home against them.
McNeil’s move collapsing and him starting to play well again means George isn’t really needed as much as we thought (although he couldn’t play on Saturday). Haven’t seen anything this season that has made me think that anyone on the bench would give us better chances of winning games at the moment.
Regardless of the price tags, they both should have gone out on loan unless we’re going to see more of them later in the season when there might be some low pressure games.
If we want to challenge consistently for cups and the top positions in the League. We could have a lucky run in a cup or even have a good season in the League if everything falls into place but if we want to become a team that challenges every season, much more will be needed.
£100 million is nothing nowadays though, we’d need to spend that again 2 or 3 times over before we have a squad realistically capable of doing anything serious. No doubt we need to spend wisely but we need a lot more than £100 million.
Maybe this squad just can’t do that? They should probably either fully commit to playing the way you suggest at home or fully commit to playing in the same way as they do away from home which has worked so well, seems to me like they’re unsure and playing halfway between those styles at the moment.
Not sure it was much better or worse than most of our games recently, they’ve all been tight games that could have gone either way. Probably no worse a performance than the last 2 away games. Needs to go up a level though if we want to have a strong end to the season with the tough games coming up.
We need to start games better and that has been a problem for a while, the first half drifts by in a lot of our games. That isn’t the worst thing away from home but at home, a bit more energy at the start would help.
If he had a bad spell like that here though, he would be chased out the door no matter how progressive the football is. Our longest winless run this season has been 4 games and we’ve seen how the fans react, imagine if we went on a run 3 times as long, there would be uproar.
Another manager with a 10+ game winless streak this season and said he was happy losing 3-2 at Anfield, wouldn’t last here.
Iraola who is below us? 😆
Howe is the only one that would last more than 5 minutes here. Imagine if Glasner or Iraola went on winless runs like the ones they’ve both been on this season, they’d be hounded out.
3 of those are below us with better squads so that doesn’t make sense to me. Not a chance any of them would have done better with the players we’ve had missing.
Can you name a manager that would have more than 34 points with this squad considering the players we’ve had missing for large parts of the season?
3 of those managers are below us at the moment with better squads and one (Frank) finished below Dyche with a points deduction, I wouldn’t want any of them. I’m sure we are planning but making wrong decisions at this stage of our rebuild would be a disaster, can’t afford to make those mistakes.
There would need to be a world class manager like Ancelotti willing to come here if I was thinking of getting rid of Moyes. Moyes has said he doesn’t want to be managing until he’s in his 70s so I don’t see him being here for years like last time but I think he’ll be here for 1 or 2 more seasons.
Do you think another manager would have more than 33 points with the current squad (with the players we’ve had missing for chunks of the season)? I’d like to know who would.
We do have one of the more difficult ends to the season fixture wise but if the key players in the team can now stay fit for the last 15 games, especially Branthwaite, we should pick up points along the way. We beat one of the best teams in the League away last week with half the team missing.
5 midweek night League games in a row in the middle of winter doesn’t help things. The squad will improve further in the summer and that should get the seats filled again. Ticket prices are increasing too which will increase the revenue even if there are a few empty seats.
There are 30,000+ on the waiting list for season tickets, I don’t think they’re going to struggle selling tickets.
Most overall G/A in the team, not sure he could have done much more.
We’re not losing 16 games in a row. We’d probably have enough now even if we did.
Regardless of the price tag, Dibling should go out on loan for the second half of the season. Would do him (and us) much better than sitting on the bench for the rest of the season which is what will happen when everyone is back from next week.
We’ve gone 3 games without a win without most of our best players and there are plenty of fans thinking Moyes should go.
Imagine if he went on a winless run here like the one he’s on at Palace, the fans would chase him out the door.
We need all of Ndiaye, Dewsbury-Hall and Grealish back as if any are missing, it’s quite easy to mark the others out of the game. Hopefully they’ll all be back for the Leeds game.
With regards to wins though which is the most important thing, Goodison was no better recently, 5 games won in total there last season.
We’re on target for 50+, we’d have to do worse than Burnley’s first half of the season in our second half of the season to be anywhere close. Will be tough with the team as it is at the moment but when Ndiaye, Dewsbury-Hall, Gueye, Branthwaite etc. come back, there should be no issues.
We literally need to win 1 or 2 more games out of 18 to be 100% safe with a few draws thrown in. Get back to full strength and it won’t be a problem, all 3 promoted teams to come at home with Wolves tomorrow as well.
