Multnomah County has a new district attorney. Nathan Vasquez was sworn in just now, replacing Mike Schmidt.
Counts 1 and 2 are class C felonies. Each carry a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $125,000 fine.
Counts 5 and 6 are for failing to report as a mandatory reporter. According to the Oregon Justice Department, only 3 other people have been charged with this crime in Oregon since 2017.
BREAKING: Former St Helens Principal Katy Wagner has been indicted on two counts of criminal mistreatment of students and four counts of official misconduct. This is the third indictment in the ongoing sexual abuse crisis in the school district.
I spent a few days with outreach workers in Portland last month. It was really inspiring to see them using their own lives experiences to connect with folks on the street. They aren’t going to fix the social problems of the city, but for those who need access to services, their work is critical.

I just sat down with the St Helens Chief of Police who said that he expects more charges to come in the sex abuse crisis at the local school district. He says new victims are coming forward and that the investigation is still “very active.”
The St Helens School Board is planning to appoint an interim superintendent at their 6:30pm meeting on Monday. Community members I have spoken to expect the new person to provide some transparency about ongoing sexual abuse investigations in the district.

This is after two high school teachers in the district were arrested last week for sexual abuse of a student.
