A cutting from the Jan/Feb 1977 edition of the #SohoClarion. Presumably, the "famous British artist" in question is @francisbacon.bsky.social

The next episode of Soho Bites is about a film which stars #MarianneFaithfull, so obviously I'm listening to my recent charity shop purchase 📽️ #IrinaPalm
Yes during those days when meeting indoors was not allowed...
I cannot wait to read this! I love a bit of Chaplin and Jackie was a fascinating guest on #MuralMorsels back in the day talking about Hogarth.
Well it only took five years but I've finally set up a Soho Bites Facebook page. It's only one hour old so still pretty quiet! Come and say hello www.facebook.com/share/1FNVFM...
Pages scanned from a 1944 scrapbook I bought on Ebay - Two Thousand Women #filmstarscrapbook #vintageukfilm #1940sfilm #classiccinema #PhyllisCalvert #FloraRobson 📽️📽️📽️

"King of the Underworld", the film @vicpratt.bsky.social discusses in this month's show, is actually 3 episodes of an old TV series “Inspector Morley, Late of Scotland Yard” stitched together. Each story ends abruptly. This is the end scene from story 1, cut out when the film was put together 📽️ 1/3
Soho Bites episode 51 landed today - @vicpratt.bsky.social from the #BFI discusses a clunky old crime drama, “King of the Underworld” (1952) starring #TodSlaughter and Aidan McManus from @portobelloradio.com talks about a real life king of the underworld, #BernieSilver 📽️
Friend of the show, the brilliant #DavidMcGillivray has a new YouTube series "My Fleapit, My Palace" from @severinfilms.bsky.social - brilliant, entertaining and informative, it's a must see for all Soho cinema buffs (@nigelcsmith.bsky.social for example!)
Magnificent!
My sources tell me there is a TV channel called Together TV & that tonight at midnight they’re showing “Zeta One” (1970). I discussed this terrible film with “The Truffaut of Smut”, the magnificent #DavidMcGillivray back in episode 35 sohobitespodcast.com/episode/35/
Thank you to @privateeyenews.bsky.social. Please don't sue me.
Interesting fundraising event for the Museum of Soho this coming Saturday at #AllisJoy, 75 Dean St.
...and “The Fallen Idol” (which isn’t technically a Soho film but there was a very good reason to feature it) sohobitespodcast.com/episode/42/ 📽️ 3 of 3 #FilmEphemera #FilmAnnual #ClassicBritishCinema

...here’s “Good Time Girl”, our film in episode 30... sohobitespodcast.com/episode/30/ 📽️ 2 of 3
The only good thing @dailymail.co.uk has ever done is to publish the "Daily Mail British Film Annual" in 1948 & 1949. I have picked up copies of these and have been putting my new scanner to work. Here are the pages for "Noose" which we did in episode 49... 📽️ sohobitespodcast.com/episode/49/ 1 of 3
More scanner lobby card fun with a set from "The Golden Disc" (1958) which we discussed with #kenhollings in episode 25 📽️ sohobitespodcast.com/episode/25/ #TerryDene #LeePatterson #ButchersFilms #RocknRoll #SohoCoffeeShops
My new scanner has been working hard today, processing the various lobby cards I've bought over the years. Here's a set I snapped up for The Green Cockatoo (1937) which we talked about in episode 41. 📽️ sohobitespodcast.com/episode/41 #johnmills #reneray #robertnewton #vintagefilm #britishnoir
I bought a scanner and have been scanning pages from some extremely old film star scrapbooks I bought on Ebay a few years ago. Here are some actors who have appeared in films we've covered on Soho Bites #carolelandis #cesarromero #googiewithers #jeankent 📽️ #scrapbooks #vintagefilm
I did an enjoyable bit of research at the BFI library for the next film today using microfilm which is always fun. Spoiler alert: I found ONE PARAGRAPH that was useful.
Interesting article today in @londonermag.bsky.social by @petercarlyon.bsky.social. Who owns Soho's soul?
Just found out that an episode of the @theobserveruk.bsky.social Slow Newscast for which I designed the sound has been nominated for an #AmnestyMediaAward. It's worth a listen! @amnestyuk.bsky.social
The film we're talking about in April's episode is "King of the Underworld" (1952) in which #TodSlaughter plays an absolute stinker of a fellow. In this opening scene he's such a rotter that one of his blackmail victims is driven to attempt suicide! 📽️ #ClassicBritishFilm #BritishNoir #rotter
Saw #TheBride! today. I can see why it was criticised for being shambolic, but I thought it was absolutely brilliant. Also, the fact that Bartleby & "I would prefer not to" is referenced repeatedly throughout the film shows, yet again, that Soho Bites remains right at the heart of zeitgeist 📽️
