OTOH, the outsized hatred it faced probably had to do with the OP's points. There was plenty of other crap music at the same time (if it wasn't disco it was some sort of treacly ballad) that didn't get nearly the same level of fury.

For a while I was listening to a station that played a random selection of Casey Kasem top 40 lists from different years, and the 70s were ROUGH. They disco-fied everything that moved and most of it was unbearable. I might be misremembering, but I think there was a disco version of the Lord's Prayer

It's amazing how all the AI boosters in writing spaces keep insisting that "everyone" is doing it. No, we're not. You're doing it because you suck, and we don't.

Or as cover for what they're really saying, which is, "give us what we want or you don't get our money"

Yes, I wouldn’t doubt that you could train AI to make plausible ersatz Cormac McCarthy that would fool most readers. But if you gave AI the sum of human literature up until McCarthy’s first novel, it would never spontaneously create his style.
